What do the people of the tmf prefer to listen to in their free time?I was curious to see how the majority of people would answer. :atom:

Well, I am almost freakishly eclectic in my musical tastes, but I'm also older than most of the forum members, so I'm not really representative. (But then I stand out from a lot of my contemporaries, too.) I enjoy music from Bach to Hank Williams, from Duke Ellington to Bruce Springsteen.

When driving, I listen almost exclusively to country and western music. I love the classics...Bob Wills, Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, Patsy Cline, Ernest Tubb, Johnny Horton, Marty Robbins and, of course, Johnny Cash. Of the newer artists, I like Dwight Yoakam, Ian Tyson, Asleep at the Wheel, and the Flatlanders. In my occasional rock moods, I go for the Boss, the Allman Brothers, Hendrix, or the Band.

At home, it's Bach, Mozart, Beethoven or Schubert...or it's Sinatra, Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw, Rosemary Clooney, Bing Crosby or Ella Fitzgerald. Oh, and Miles Davis, of course. If I listen to rock at the house, it's usually somebody like Jethro Tull or the Moody Blues...or soft rockers like Don McLean, Neil Young, Steve Forbert, and the Cowboy Junkies.

I also love Irish tenors...John McCormack, Frank Patterson, Ronan Tynan and the rest. And historic recordings from the early 20th century, like Nimbus Records' Prima Voce collection...Caruso, Ponselle, Schipa, Gigli and Chaliapin.

One might think I have no powers of discrimination at all, but the fact is I still find quite a bit to dislike: rap, heavy metal, bubblegum, disco, most contemporary country music. I can't bear Madonna, Shania or Nirvana, among others.

Ryan, I mostly listen to rock music of all kinds. Occasionally I'll listen to rap/hip-hop, pop, or dance music for a change of pace. That's pretty much it, though I'm willing to give any song that sounds good to me, regardless of what genre it's from, a "fair hearing." 😀

Like Ignatz, I listen to a variety of stuff. I enjoy musicals, new age, swing, jazz, old country, classic rock, easy listening, disco, olides (50s-60s), various ethnic music....and much more. It depends what I'm in the mood for at the time. Today, it was Christmas music...again of all sorts. (Hey, I was putting up decorations and had to get in the mood.)

There's not a lot that I don't like, but the newer rap and hard rock are among them. I just get a headache from them. They're fine for others. But, I can't get into them.

If I had to pick a favorite...? Hmmmmmm.... I guess I'd be out of luck. There really isn't one.

I'll listen to anything but rap, hip-hop, heavy metal, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir...

Mostly rock and techno.... Stuff like Paul Oakenfold, Delerium, Chemical Bros., and Crystal Method... but then I also listen to stuff like Audioslave, Jamiroquai, Coldplay, and Beck...

I Worship...........

.....as ever, at the temple of St William of Evans.

Proud Metalhead! I love rock (Classic and some modern), and select hip-hop and rap.

i like rap/hip hop and r&b...i like kanye, lil wayne, ludacris, the game and others...r&b i like alicia keys, usher, ciara, trey songz and others...i like oldies too like smokey robinson and the miracles, marvin gaye, the isley brothers, george clinton and parliament-funkadelic and so on...i here songs from other types of music that i like occasionally but i mainly like rap/hip hop and r&b.

Classic deep disco (not bee gees and all that comercial shit lol), soul, real r&b (60s-80s), jazz, new wave, classic rock (when i get on those kicks anymore its usualy pink floyd , ac/dc or queen)

to my local radio station that totally rocks. nothing but hard rock, past and present.

Though i listen to just about everything, I'll always come back to classic rock.

Currently what I've been playing.......... jazz fellas such as Miles Davis, Jimmy Smith, Art Tatum :bowing:
50s "exotica" folks Les Baxter, Yma Sumac, and Martin Denny.
New Age artist Steve Roach..........Steve has some spacey, "out-there" cds that would give Pink Floyd a run for their money.

I grew up listening to 60s and 70s Rock & Soul music and by golly, that's the music I'll be pestering the nurses to play when I'm rocking in my chair at the Old Folks Home sixty or seventy years from now, dadgumit! (Yes, I plan on living to the ripe old age of 113!)

But on those days when I crave something a bit different, I'll play some good ol' Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Nat King Cole, etc. I also enjoy the music from India like the music of Ravi Shankar. Very meditative and relaxing. Jazz greats like Miles Davis and John Coltrane are always welcome and I've grown quite fond of Johnny Cash and a lot of the great Country greats from the past.

But The Beatles will always be Number One on my list of favorites.

I'm long-winded when it comes to music...Sorry!

There is always a song in my head.
I grew up on The Beatles, Steppenwolf, Hendrix, early Stones and stuff like that. As a teenager in the 70s when everyone was listening to Kiss and Aerosmith I was more into Boston, the Cars, Todd Rungren/Utopia, Jethro Tull, Blue Oyster Cult and early Cheap Trick. Then the Talking Heads and B52's came along and I went more alternative where I've stayed since. The Pixies were/are a favorite along with XTC, Lush and Weezer. Currently I really like Radiohead, Coldplay and Beck along with somewhat lesser know groups like the Mountain Goats, the Delgados and Of Montreal.

Hard Rock. Goth Rock... any kind of Rock...

I tend to lean toward the harder stuff though...

TRIVIUM is all I've been listening to lately.
