Music Recommendations?

The Von Bondies - You like White Stripes, you'll like these guys. 😉

Snail Shell

Von Bondies don't really remind me of the White Stripes that much, but they're ok. I've seen them live and they have a song called "Mairead" so obviously they have to be cool.

De-Loused in the Comatorium era Mars Volta is one of my favorite bands, and if we are going to extend that, I would include Relationship of Command era At The Drive In. I also enjoy Jonny Greenwood, Apparat, Massive Attack, Nightwish, and Ani DiFranco amongst others.

Well, I'm a big fan of prog rock, and nothing beats good old Jethro Tull in that6 catagory.

These guys have experimented with their sound so much its hard to place them in any specific catagory (thats a good thing in this case) They have done blues, hard rock, instrumental, folk and even some celtic-pagan themed music.

Ian Anderson (the lead vocalist and flautist of the group) is a lyrical genius and wonderful flute player. He does for the flute what Jimmi Hendrix did for the guitar.

If you want to explore their sound, the three albums I suggest are their debut album called "This Was" which has a nice blusey feel to it.

After that, give "Songs From the Wood" album a listen for some wonderful folk rock with a pagan overtone.

Finally, for a truely unique experience, listn to their concept album abou the afterlife entitled "A Passion Play." This album floored me when I first heard it.

Hope you like them! They are certainl my all-time favorite band.

Funny little tidbit, I'm not sure if it's still true, but on Limewire for a while you could search for music many different ways. One of the ways was simply searching by genre. And it would list typical ones you one find...that is until you got down to the p's. They listed Primus as their own genre because who the heck even KNOWS what Primus would fit into?

Been listening to alot of Kings of Leon lately, awesome band!

Some personal favs:

Molly's Chamber
True Love Way
Wasted Time
Sex on Fire
Soft
Genius

They're not new, but I've been really stuck on listening to Nonpoint lately. Their music gives me an adrenaline surge.

Alright, well my interests are all over the place so I'll throw a few out there.

Muse - Invincible
Evanescence - Hello
They Might Be Giants - Istanbul (Not Constantinople)
Streetlight Manifesto - Mephisto's Cafe

And if you like non-lyrical istrumentation you can't go wrong with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Try Big Country or Lover's Leap.

I love Happy Hardcore, Electro, and the more energetic forms of Trance.

I release a new CD next weekend, I'll post a link to download it here (if I can remember, somebody remind me  ) and give you all a listen to some rave music. 😀

How is it possible that besides Tool, I have not heard of one of these people. I feel so....uninformed...

Anyone said Alabama 3 yet? I think they're called A3 in the states if that's any help. They're kind of hard to describe, sort of electronic gospel country music. Their first album 'Exiled on Coldharbour Lane' is great from start to finish.

Also if you like fancy something heavier theres Pitchshifter (Industrial Metal) or One Minute Silence (Rap Metal).

Might not be your cup of tea, Purrbast, but there ya go. Many other people have the rock/metal side of music covered, and I sense a lack of electronic love within the community haha.

-Xionking

Alter Bridge - specifically Blackbird, Metalingus, One Day Remains, In Loving Memory, One By One, Watch Over You

The Offspring - My personal favorite, I love just about everything from these guys. Gone Away, Half-Truism, Kristy are you Doing Ok, Come Out and Play, Race Against Myself, Can't Repeat...

Chevelle - Really great hard rock group, and only three guys. Check out Comfortable Liar, Another Know it All, Safewaters, Vitamin R, Straight Jacket Fashion

Thrice - awesome rock group, kinda under the radar. Artist in the Ambulance, Blood Clots and Black Holes, Melting Point of Wax, Deadbolt, Red Sky, Daedalus, Digital Sea, Firebreather, etc.

Trust Company -great guitars here. Figure Eight and Dowfall are a couple favorites
