So, I pulled this footage off of my dashcam the other evening.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-hqpawUFPk

The story behind it: I was sitting in the shithole that is I-95N when a tractor trailer came hauling ass down the shoulder on my right side. He merged back into traffic when he saw a State Trooper sitting in the median where people like to cross and skip the traffic, but I stopped at the Trooper and showed him the tape.

Ohhohohoh! Viper, you just gave me incentive to wanna buy a dashcam! That is frickin' awesome!

This sort of thing is getting more common and as a long time road warrior I am glad it is. There are professionals out there who understand safety and rarely take a chance like that, if ever. Then there are the " cowboys" who's philosophy is any chance or risk is ok unless someone gets hurt. It is not easy to run these monster rigs down the road and taking chances like this cowboy did adds to the danger factor. Someone in a car not expecting to be passed on the berm could nose out, or the rig itself could do a little bobble and then the crash could kill someone. So this cowboy trying to gain time now gets to spend time with a state trooper and most of those officers don't have a sense of humor. And if the trooper doesn't like the answers he's getting from the cowboy then he can summon a Dept. of Transportation officer or two to inspect the truck, the cargo, and the cowboy's log book. This can take hours and if the DOT doesn't like what they see the truck could be impounded for any number of violations.

I'll wait for Zod's take on this and see how close I come to his knowledge of the road today..

Way to go Mark. Some people who hold a CDL need to have their ticket pulled. I'd be willing to bet this bonehead does this sort of thing or worse all the time.

Good work! Go get 'em, tiger! I'd be tempted to do the same. But, they'd be pulling over every third driver up here. They all pull crap like that...and more dangerous stuff as well.

Well, it's the really egregious stuff I'm more concerned about. Little shit like turning with no signal irritates us all but I'm not going to go through all this about it. This dude, on the other hand, could have easily killed someone.

That's pretty much what would happen. I hope that douche bag get's one big assed fine.

There are sone new rules for truckers coming into play this fall. But then,I feel the DOT should go after all types of vehicles. Not just commercial vehicles.

You'll get no argument from me on that Zod. We all see the idiots on the road who should be walking or using public transportation.

"what the fuck makes you think you're special" lmao. Good job! Keep up the awesomeness 🙂

Agreed. The little things are just annoying. I'd be going after the serious stuff too. We have loads of folks who speed (and I'm talking 80+) while dodging in and out of lanes (including the shoulders.) just to get places faster. If I see someone coming up on me doing that crap, I try to get in front of them and slow them down until we come up on a normal speed trap area. Often, they speed up even more and get nailed once I get out of their way.

The other thing I hate are those who have all sorts of crap in their hands...texting, fishing for songs on ipods, eating, gabbing on the phone, applying makeup, shaving, etc. I don't care how good a driver you are. Everyone is distracted while doing that stuff. All too often, it's that "harmless" extra split second that means a life. They need to start nailing people for that too!
