This is my second day...I woke up this morning and took a quick "bath" actaully I used about 10-20 handi-wipes to clean my hands, face, chest, etc. Im letting those who rarely have had a shower use the fascilities set up for that...I can take a bath when I return home Tuesday. I cooked some bacon and eggs on a open fire with the family that is staying with me in my tent, which I told them today Im leaving with them for their or someone elses use when I leave, and they were thankful. I went to my little shed and began the work again of signing and readying vouchers and money to give to those affected. Im told tommrrow Ill move about 5 miles down the coast but I asked if I could stay since I have a rapport with those near here, they agreed and will put a new person down where they wanted me to go. With that I continue my work....let people use my cell phone, my internet access on my lap top, and letting kids get a break by watching cartoons on my portable DVD player. About 2pm today I was notified that tonights meals would be not as much as the last few days and for me to ration water because they were taking supplies from here to New Orleans. I know the need in New Orleans is great, and of course I understand..but the people here are affected as well. As I tell those around me what is going on I dont hear one complaint, one hint of anger...just care and then they all gathered to pray for those in New Orleans. Even with nothing these people here pray and give to others in just as much as they. As one gentleman told me, were a small community of about 5000 and we can help each other, let the help go to those that might not have the same. I was moved as he handed me back $20.00 of the 100.00 I gave him and he said "make sure this gets back to New Orleans."
And I hope as we all do, I hope we all can get back to New Orleans someday.
And in Mississippi again tonight its quiet...
No anger, no blame, no hate, just a calm like Ive never seen from people who have lost so much but refuse to be angry they just want to rebuild. And they do. I watch as right now 3 kids play with flashlights in the night playing flashlight tag as a group of their parents gather around a fire with one gentleman playing the guitar singing "God Bless the USA"
The strength isnt in our government, politicians, or our military as I used to believe a week ago. I now fully understand that the TRUE STRENGTH of America is in our people, each individual, every heart.
Good Night and God Bless all, if you dont believe in god then good night and take care.
Ill post again tommrrow.
