This would have been really upsetting to me if I really gave a crap about what you think! But since I could care less.........

If it were my 18 year old son with some 30ish teacher, I'd make her life a living hell! She can find someone closer to her age and not turn my son into another conquest she'll dump when she's through. She's in an impressionable position of authority and an important one at that. As I said if an older was involved with your son (assuming you do have an 18 year old son), and she wasn't his teacher anymore, and everyhthing was clear regarding their relationships, then I don't think he'd have too many problems, except that after it was over he'd have a tough time finding someone as good in the sack.

What if you had a gal-pal who was involved with some young stud, would you stop being her friend because she was getting some regular action. Otherwise, I'm in my mid-30's, supposedly look ~28 (if you don't look too closely) and have worked for a few yrs. with some young men who are now 18-20.

I hope I'm wrong but it seems one 19 yr. old has made some rather flirtatious comments & gestures and I get the impression he's either been starved for attention at home (parents are divorced) and/or is comfortable with me because I'm normally quite non-threatening and speak respectfully rather than harshly.

I'm pretty sure she's only referring to two consenting adults being intimate with each other. Given this thread topic, there's no reason to assume anyone's trying to generalize the statement to include "crimes against humanity." That's another topic altogether.

Let me begin by saying thanks to everyone for posting in response to my concerns.
As for those of you who fear for the sanity of my ticklish teacher, don't fret, I will be very gentle

As for the discussion on consent in these situations, as a 19 year old in a relationship with an older woman, I'd like to offer my input on the morality and safety issues. First, I think we need to seperate the legal from
the culturally acceptable. Let's remember that what we are doing is legal and would be legal even if I was a female and she a male. That said, it's important that each person set their own standards for what is acceptable in their life. I personally, am on the side of those that say no way to letting their 18 year old daughter get involved with a 30 year old man. MY cultural upbringing is that girls need extra protection when they are young, more so than boys.
HOWEVER, I also accept that if I was from many Middle Eastern and African nations, I would feel blessed to marry my 18 year old daughter off to a 30 year old man. So remember to keep in perspective that everyone is going to do whatever the hell they want, and, so long as it's not illegal, there's really not much to be said.

If any of you kind folks are worried about my safety, I am a 6'3'' 250lb rugby player and she has a size 6 foot and many ticklish spots. JUst kidding. Thanks again everyone for posting. I promise to update in a new thread on Monday

I think a lot of gender biases are coming into play here.

When it comes to overage female/underage males, many here are underestimating the serious mental ramifications statutory rape can have on a young boy. There was that case years ago about the female teacher who had sex with her 13 year old student to seduce him into murdering her husband and others she wanted dead.

Once a boy realizes he's been taken advantage of, this can plant the seed of hatred against women. He could grow up with a chip on his shoulder, looking for "revenge", since the system didn't afford him satisfaction. Various violent crimes could come out of these feelings of injustice and impotent rage.

I see your point but I have to respectfully disagree. After all, she did say "Two consenting adults...it's all good." That seems pretty general and all-encompassing to me. I brought up crimes against humanity merely as an example to refute the notion that whatever two consenting adults do is guaranteed to be okay, which is what seemed to be implied. I do agree that in this case, nothing wrong was done, and I'm certainly content to leave it at that.
