Only 30 some more day until the DAYTONA 500! With pre season thunder nearly washed out and #3 back after 13 years, who do you think will be fast during Speed Weeks? Alot of new team combos to choose from this year. Who ya got?
- I'm thinkin ole 6x and Cheating Chad will do the single car run B.S again and toon the 48 car just right lol

Just gonna throw in my two cents, here!!! (and maybe a couple extra pennies)

1--I don't think the #3 should EVER...be on the track again...in Winston/Nextel/Sprint Cup!!! (or whoever the next corporate sponsor is)
1A-RCR should have retired that number FOREVER!!! (as I also think should happen with "the 43"...when Richard Petty passes)
1B-We all know, it's only because he's the "Grandson"...but Austin Dillon hasn't "earned" the right to be in ANY Cup car (yet)...let alone the
"legendary" #3!!! (as shown last season...when he showed no respect to anyone...in the few Cup races he ran in)
2--To win the Cup??...anybody BUT 6X or "Cry-al" Busch!!!
3--(and my final penny)...Can't stand Joey Logano!!! (for similar reasons listed above, in 1B) I hope Tony Stewart is healthy...................
and "takes Joey out" of more than one race, this year!!!
3A-Add Joey to #2...^^^above^^^ LOL!!!

That's all I have to say about this season...won't debate it...we'll just see how things play out!!!

Very much agree on the #3 even thou it was raced before I became a fan. It seens everyones sick of Jimmie, expect his fans! Haha Long live the champ!!

It should be interesting to see how the new playoff system goes.

I do not understand nascar fans complaining about the chase and wanting to end it. If they did that and went back to the 'old' system, JJ would be 10x before it was done. Even as we speak they are trying to mix up things to keep the same person from winning every year. If I'm not mistaken that's the main reason they introduced the chase to begin with.

I seen them talking of plans for a new point system, but i have yet to even get 1 detail on it lol What the F1 knockout style qualifying? Thats gunna be cool IMHO. Q-runs were so boring I couldn't watch it and I freaking love NASCAR!

lol I seriously hope they dont just it down to the last race. What if you're flawless all year and have a bad race in Homestead (providing they dont change up the track dates)?

It happens in sports. Remember the Patriots were 18-0 and lost the superbowl. It's a matter of being the best when you have to be the best.

I think its different when its 1vs42 while at the same time to win the championship its gunna 1vs3 with 39 other variable teams. It sounds like there turnin the Chase into NFL play offs. It might be cool though.

Any1 know when the Shootout is?? Thats only a couple weeks away right?

I think it starts Thursday Feb 20 with the Daytona on the 23rd.

I think the new format will be cool. I'm just tired of always seeing the last race come down to two drivers and one has to finish 23rd or better to win the cup. I like JJ but it's just getting boring.

I thought the shootout was a week before the 500?
Any as a huge 48 fan, peer domination is boring. I wish the 20 would have done better at Pheonix. However it boils down though, I hope it goes unchanged for atleast a decade. New point systems every 3 - 4 years is ridiculous lol

The Shootout is traditionally the Saturday night, before "front row" qualifying, on the Sunday before the 500!! Then they run the "Duals" on the Thursday before..to set the rest of the field. I haven't noticed if that has changed, this year.

And now with the Super Bowl in our rear view mirrors...how about a little more NASCAR banter??!!

How about the new "Chase" format...which was formally announced last week??

--still the last 10 races...
--expanding from 12 to 16 drivers to participate...
--4 drivers to be "eliminated" after each 3rd race, during the Chase...
--points reset after each "elimination race"...
--and leaving a "Final 4", to race for the cup, in the final race!!!

Plus...(and I think the most important element)...WINNING A RACE..virtually assures you a spot in the Chase!!! (provided there aren't more than 16 winners, over the first 26 races) The only exception to getting in without a win..is if the actual "points leader" doesn't have a win..going in to the Chase.

I know the emphasis has been on WINNING...since they went to the "Chase format". However...now maybe we'll see some truly, old fashioned "boys have at it" racing again!!! But only if Brian France and Mike Helton let them...without "probation" and/or suspensions!!! (unless it's REALLY OBVIOUS that it's for retaliation, and not just "battling for the win")

Anyway...that's my two cents on this matter!!!

Caught it!!! As usual...a long, mile and a half "snooze-fest"...with one or two dominant cars...putting most of the field, one or more laps down...with a hundred miles to go, still!!! Even though I'm not much of a "48 fan"...kinda glad he won, though!!...and here's why.....

.....we talked about the points format, earlier in this thread.....
.....Jimmie's win makes 10 winners in 12 races!!! Could we get to more than 16 winners...in the first 26 races??...think of this.....
.....Matt hasn't won yet.....
.....Tony hasn't won yet.....
.....Clint hasn't won yet.....
.....Kasey hasn't won yet.....

Wins by them would get us to 14!!!...with the "wild card" races of Daytona (again)...and the 2 road courses, still to come!!! And if all were won by different drivers, well...do the math!!! LOL!!!

And then there is the fact that Jamie is running well, again!! (and always runs well at Daytona).....
Brian Vickers has been consistent and is in the top 10 in points (also runs well at the "big tracks")
And don't forget about Kyle Larson!!!...13th in points...has come close a couple times...and has 2 Nationwide wins over Kyle Busch!!! That kid could sneak in and steal one of those wins!!!

OK...like I said earlier...we'll see how it plays out!!! But it is getting interesting, isn't it??

Yeah dude!!! We're 12 races in right? Jeeez thats not even half of the regular season. I think just 1 win wont write your ticket, will definitely need 2. Marcos is another I'm watching this year too. Theres soooo many drivers yet to win!

If Marcos doesn't have a "brain cramp"...and "saves fuel" by slowing down too much (like two years ago at Sonoma)...he should be a favorite to win at least one (if not both) of the road course races!!!

Well well well. We are in my neck of the words - Michigan International Speedway! Passed up going this year b.c I have plans to see a different race.

But, with this being a track I've actually driven around in my 01 Interceptor Impala and seeing a few races here, I'll see say Sunday we will have yet another first time winner this year - the #5! That #4 is to fast for its own good lol.

UGGGHHH And think I turned down going to the that my team won at. Oh well. Think that race really showed all the key players for the rest of the season; 48, 4, 2, 22, 24

Don't forget about the 88!! 2 wins..3rd in overall points (the 24 leads, but "only" 1 win..with the 48, 2nd overall, and 3 wins!!!) That Hendrick group is dominating!!! But also..don't forget that Hendrick supplies all of "Tony's cars", with engines!!! (including the 4)..as well as to a few other organizations.

But we still need 7 more, different winners..in 11 races..to possibly "mess up" the chase, a little bit. Odds are starting to dwindle, though!!
So..go TONY..MATT..CLINT..KASEY..RYAN..JAMIE..BRIAN..MARCOS..and even KYLE LARSON!!! If any of them can win 1 each..that could knock out KURT BUSCH (even with his 1 win) as things stand today. Just some wishful thinking, on my part, I guess!!

I'm surpised Tony and Matt havent won yet, and I think its starting to look bleak for them guys. Kasey will get 1 soon im sure. And with the road race today we might get another new winner - I havent seen any on track activities this weekend.

This thread has "sat dormant", long enough...So...........................

OK...race fans..."The Chase" starts this coming Sunday at Chicago!!!

Finally "whittled down" to the final 16!!! And with 13 different winners..3 teams had to make The Chase without a victory, on merit of the points standings. (Matt Kenseth, Ryan Newman and Greg Biffle) It can be anyone's Cup to win..and with the "eliminations" coming after each 3 races..it should prove to be quite an intense battle!!!

I cant believe I started this just b4 Preseason Thunder (Daytona Testing)! Been a crazy yr and easily NASCARs most intense. With 8 teams within 18 points [18 positions on track], which isnt even 1/2 the feild, these last 2 races will be historic for sure...
