Heck, brother, last year had several DOZEN people I'd met before. Out of around a hundred people, that's not surprising, though.

The longer you attend, the more people you meet. There's some REALLY cool people there. All walks o' life.

Met some really conservative folks who greeted me warmly and were incredibly sociable. Met some kids who were likewise, pierced more than me, tattoo'd in several cases, in several places.

It's really hard to have a bad time, socially, at NEST, IMHO.

Just check out the threads in the NEST subforum in the gatherings/personal section. Particularly check out the recap threads for more specifics about what goes in.

As for whether its worth it, absofreakinglutely it is. If you are a shy person, there will probably be a few hours where you will be very nervous when you first get there, but when you are surrounded by some of the most easy-going, humorous, kind, awesome people you could ever meet, who btw all happen to share the same interest you do, its pretty hard not to have a great time.

It's one of those situations where if you are a shy person, you just need to dive in. Believe me, you'll kick yourself later for missing it.

I should also mention that NEST does an amazing job helping newbies feel welcomed and comfortable. Last year many the vets participated in online chats with the newbies attending to answer all their questions. At the event itself, there are classes specifically for newbies.

You're always going to be a newbie until you go. So you may as well go.

It is very worth any awkwardness!!! Take it from me, the queen of social awkwardness, lol.

Find someone who has been before, ask them to be your buddy. I would, but I can't go this year. But everyone I met had a huge heart and went out of their way to make even the shyest feel comfy and welcome.

As if NEST wasn't a good enough reason to go to Philly! Damnit, that cheese steak looks so very very unhealthy! I must have it! And more importantly, I now need to watch Rocky!

I wonder if I could rob a bank and use that money to finance my way to NEST... nah... that would just be messy, anyway, what with this recession the banks don't have and money right now.

In particular I am looking forward to seeing Joel who has been my roommate since 2006, Tickleshotel (if she's coming), Amnesiac, Avenger, Classy, Kevin and Lisa, WorkinProgress, TickleEmperor, Lynn, Dave the moderator, Bella, Tamia, Dan, Affectionate Dan, Jonathan and TickleKitten, Tickleasaurus and RChello there are more but those are the most important in my opinion.

Being new to the forum doesn't mean a thing. You're opinions are as valid as anyone else. We've had people from age 18 to people in their sixties attend. I think about a quarter of the people last year were 25 or younger.So if you want to go and meet people it is entirely up to you and your circumstances.
