New Cell Phones with cameras in them... BEWARE!

If you never thought of this before (it's a good reflection on you that you don't have things like this occur to you!):


Keep a watch out for people standing near you at retail stores,
restaurants, grocery stores, etc., that have a cell phone in hand. With the new camera cell phones, they can take a picture of your credit card, which gives them your name, number and expiration date. Identification theft is one of the fastest growing scams today, and this is just another example of the means that are being used.

Be aware of your surroundings!

This actually almost happened to an Aunt of mine, but they were so inept at it, she caught them and chased them outta the restaraunt.

Also beware that these new phones will also start to have MOTION video capture capabilities!!!

Just for the record, I'd suggest (and have done to people during my time in retail hell) that whenever you're holding a card in public waiting to pay, keep your thumb or finger over part of the number on the front of the card.

By the way, a lot of the more recent camera phones can already do video capture, certainly any of the new 'smartphones' (Umm, the Sony P900, Nokia 6600, Orange SPV etc) should be able to, as will any of the 3G phones.

What else... oh, don't buy one if you work for the government or anywhere where photo taking is forbidden by contract and/or law. My mate fell victim to that one and had a hell of a time getting a new unit last time he squished his existing mobile.

And as for why they keep making them... simple, adding the camera isn't that expensive, it fits into the form factor of a phone quite nicely and is a really good selling point, especially in the younger market. Plus of course the cost of SENDING pictures is just ouch! and oh do the networks love that.

All that being said... my current phone's got an add-on camera and the replacement will probably have a built in one (whether I want it to or not), and it's come in useful. Specifically when faced with a network from hell I've taken a snap of the wiring cabinet, sent it back to the guys at our main office and asked the muppet that put the thing in if it's the red or blue wire I should be cutting... 😀 So some real applications DO exist, albeit not a great number of them.

Because this is the world today, thats why. Everything is cell phones, hip hop and hate..sad but way true😡

This is one of the many reasons I've avoided the cellphone bandwagon thus far. I guess I'm just not ready to move along with the times yet. At least not until the security is upped a little. The nerve of some people, taking pictures of credit card numbers! That's really f'd up! I don't know who pisses me off more, hackers or identity thieves.

I have one and they sure can be fun to snap a pic an instantly send it to a friend's email, but they can invade your privacy in the wrong hands. You know what... it's time to FIGHT BACK! Everyone upgrade to a camera phone as soon as you get the chance and we'll all go round looking for people taking sneaky T&A shots. Spot one, snap the face, stick it on-line and put a 'rate this sad bastard' (come on, sadly you KNOW it's going to be guys doing this, right?) thing next to each pic. Anyone want to volunteer the web space? 😀
