Asparagus is considered a delicacy here in Germany, and our best asparagus comes from the Bavarian area of Schrobenhausen.

Now, a gourmet has uncovered a ring of asparagus forgers! He sent a few of the white spears to a ministry which supervises food quality, and it turned out that the asparagus came from Greece. They inquired further, and found out that a ring of Greek traders imported cheap Greek asparagus (often loaded with pesticides and other chemicals), then printed falsified banderoles and sold it as expensive "high quality product from Schrobenhausen". The forgers now face an indictment.

Asparagus-piracy! Now I've heard everything! 🙄 😛

Amazing what different "cultures" consider delicacies...

In the US(as a kid)...we wouldn't care where Asparagus came from as long as it wasn't on our plate 😉
I mean I like the "head" of Asparagus but not the stalk part.
Asparagus is Asparagus in the US...

Look, Wherever there is "The Best STuff from XYZ" then there will be someone else offering XYZ that is not the best stuff...
Human nature is world wide...

I remember the US having problems like that with vidalia onions in the past. Apparently misusing the vidalia logo when selling onions is a big and very expensive no no.

apparently asparagus has really come up in the world. I was in a trendy little shop last weekend, and oil paintings of asparagus were going for $200-$400. seems that a local artist specializes in painting them lol.

I love asparagus, and I settle for the cheap Wal-Mart brand, because to me it tastes just as good as the Green Giant brand, or any other "quality" vegetable brand.

At a fancy dinner party once, Babe Ruth declined to take any asparagus, saying, "Sorry, Ma'am, no thanks, asparagus makes my urine smell bad."

Presumably, in the locker room, he would have said "makes my piss smell bad." 😛
