I'd like to be under the sea, in an octopus's coconut fort in the shade.

I just saw this and I think it's absolutely amazing and I'd love to be scuba diving and see that but Octopuses are dangerous. They will grab hold of you and not let go,then, you have a great chance of drowning

1) These guys are the size of half a coconut, I really don't think you have to worry about that.

2) The octopus that causes the most deaths, the Blue-ringed Octopus, does so because it has a lethal poison in its saliva. You are more likely to be attacked by a shark, which is pretty unlikely, than you are to be drowned by an octopus.

So don't live in fear of the octopus and enjoy some scuba diving fun!

"Bwahahaha... I have my coconut fort.... now NO ONE will find me. Let's set up over here..... okay, maybe not here.... let's go here...... Nope, not here, either.... How about here--HEY! Get that camera outta my face A**HOLE!"

"Stupid nautilus think they're sooooo smart with their natural shells. I'LL SHOW THEM!"

You know its because of the octopus' nature to build stuff like this is what inspired Ringo to write Octopus' Garden!

Very, very few octopi are much bigger than a basketball. The largest species gets to be 5 or 6 feet in diameter, but that's including legs. The body is maybe 12-18 inches across, and the whole thing might weigh 50-60 pounds.

Octopi are predators, but they're also prey for a number of critters. So they're skittish, and don't attack anything that's too large for them to eat. They rely on camouflage and the ability to jet away quickly.

The blue-ringed octopus could just about stretch itself across the palm of your hand. But it is extremely venemous.

I always did want to scuba dive but I heard they take off your mask, your breathing tube and your tank while you are under water for the test and it just sounds really, really scary

Well yeah, you need to practice for when an octopus does it to you 😀

Amazing, another species (that we don't think of as smart) using tools. 😀

People who don't think of octopi as smart have probably never met one. You have to keep them in special tanks, because if you don't then they do things like take the air pump apart.

It's a good thing for us that they only live for a year or two. If they had time to build up a base of experience then humans would be in trouble.

I didn't know I could keep one in my aquarium.I'd love to do that along with some jelly fish and seahorses

Well, bear a couple of things in mind...

First, all of the things you mentioned are salt water animals. If you do keep an aquarium then you may already know about the difficulties of maintaining salt water tanks, but it is indeed a lot more work than fresh water.

Second, octopi are predators. If you want to keep them you'll have to give them a tank of their own, because they'll eat almost anything else.

I am learning to be able to keep an aquarium but I am only on fresh water right now.My brother's fiancee says I have to learn the cycle of nitrites and nitrates first.

Looks like me and that octopus have the same taste in fruit. I'm sure he ate the coconut first om nom nom. 😀

I'm SO happy y0ungmachin3 bumped this! *Thanks!* Great vid poopies!! Too funny!! 😀

I have always wanted to go scuba diving and it's seeing stuff like this that gets me all excited to get certified. Someday soon I'm going to dive in the Great Barrier reef. I've heard the colors are so amazing there that you should only get your film developed in Australia because they won't get it right in the states since they aren't used to the color spectrum the Great Barrier reef has. Can't wait to see an octopus face to face. :bounce:
