I am not sure, but I believe it was in New Jersey in the summer of 1972.

I took that to fulfill my Sociology or Psychology distribution requirement. The professor was a self-important asshole.

Sylvain Cappell, both a brilliant mathematician and an extraordinary human being who showed his students (by example) how to live life well.

What's one teacher in high school for whom you had no respect after taking his or her class?

I would say my history teacher. She was kind of mean and didn't seem to care about the kids much.

What's one career you would have had looking back on your working history if you had to change careers?

I thought about becoming an actuary which is still a quantitative career but quite different than academic life.
