Well, I admit I do collect Japanese and Korean blades, in addition to other things like artwork, statues, and other fine artifacts. But it's not so I can go Beverly Hills Ninja on someone's ass, it's just a hobby I've had ever since I've studied martial arts. I do like guns, but only if used for home security.

Funny you should mention that. Was that a reference to David Hahn, the guy who actually built a breeder reactor in his garden shed? There was a book about him, "The Radioactive Boy Scout".

And as for the people you describe, oh snapper-of-heads, I like anime, I read comics (don't know what an mmorpg is, admittedly) I play D&D, and I do in fact own a few sharp objects, and I have respect for those "knight brotherhoods." And I also collect weapons, after a fashion. Now, I don't go offering information up, usually, but I qualify expert marksman every time I fire, I'm coming up on my annual QC for my LINE combat certification, bayonet training is, and always has been, both completely ineffective and completely [insert slanderous homosexual reference here], I enter local toughman competitions whenever I have the free time (never won, but been close a couple times), and oh, I'm married with a daughter, hense nixing the virginity bit. The moral of this pointless waste of forum space? generalizing only makes you look like an ass when you're proven wrong.

Also I would like to offer you my sincere gratitude for helping perpetuate this "waste of forum space" which was on it's way to Page 2 obscurity before you felt the compunction to reply. The moral of THIS pointless waste of forum space? If something on the internets so offends you that you feel compelled to add your voice to the masses decrying it, you're probably not as secure in yourself or your penchant for hoarding metal or shooting bullets at pieces of paper as you might like to believe.

i don't know who you know, but they aren't me!

i too have a middling range blade collection. from pocket knives to real swords. i was trained in the use of knives in the military, and some sword use in martial arts classes i took.
they are all boxed and under my bed.
i don't go around talking and drooling about them. i hate anime, and think role playing is for geeks.
as another tmf'er said maybe you should expand your world before labeling all of us!
oh yeah, i also have friends from s&w, and colt, and ruger, etc to protect my edges. lol

Kinda funny, I know people who collect nothing but the flea market cheap swords and talk all about it as if they were sword wielding gods, and I cant stand them. My daughters friends are like that, and they go out to try and "fight" each other with them. I usually shake my head and leave.

I collect weapons, but I collect battle-ready sharp as hell weapons, and all kinds, maces, polearms, spears, not just swords. Since I only go after well made, Paul Chen, Legacy Forge, etc, My collection isnt huge since I dont have that much cash. I usually do not talk about them unless asked first, and I am trained in some of their use, since I also attend and participate in Renn Faires. But many people have brought up points I agree with in this thread.

Would that it were so simple, sirrah. What actually happens is I keep getting cornered in the canteen/ smoking area/ foyer/ changing room/ toilet at work by a knobhead who doesn't seem to understand that having a large collection of pointed metal things does not make him formidable to men or attractive to women. He also seems to believe himself an expert yet did not know what a tang was. I have recently taken to scarpering like a shit-house rat whenever I see him coming but there are times in the day when I HAVE to see him, and during those times he talks about weapons, or rather the collection of shitty toys he thinks are weapons. Attempts to get him to talk about other topics which are of interest to people other than himself, topics such as football or telly or how fine the new girl on the front desk is, are usually met with an awkward foot shuffling, ten seconds of bemused silence, and a subject change back to his weapon collection.

In short he is a prick and I want him to die. Hopefully this thread will start some sort of karmic snowball that will land on his greasy head and crush him like the ant that he is. Either that or I'm going to headbutt him next time he mentions the word "sword" and see if that gets across the message that I don't want to talk about his nonsense.
