Personality types and tickling~! (Kudos to EQ for the idea in the poll section!)

After perusing the polls section for a little while, I fell on one by EVILQUEEN. She was asking if people were introverts or extroverts in their tickling stance. I'm curious enough to bring it to the discussion and ask the thoughts about it.

GREAT question EQ!!!

We've seen all the threads about what we find attractive in the appearance of a tickler/ticklee and generally they all fall back to the common denominator of "I like 'em ticklish." Which is cool in itself.

I'm wondering if there is an attraction from certain peronalitiy types to a particular other type. For example....if you're an introvert, do you like getting the chance as a tickler to really wail on someone when in your "day to day" life you might just fade into the wallpaper. Or someone who normally is "out there" and highly social, do you adore the chance to be the quiet one from whom tickle must be pulled? And most importantly, WHY?

Personally, I find that I'm an extrovert. *surprise* I like tickling the others like me! LOL Put them in their place once in a while. HOWEVER, there is something to be said about being the 'Lee to the normally quiet guy who surprises you with the abundance of energy a tickler can summon up!

introverts or extroverts

I have always believed that it was the shy introverts who had the fetishes. I am an introvert myself and I am really big into tickling. I want to tickle and I want to be tickled. Most extroverts are very mainstream people who are very much into what everyone else is into (which sadly is not tickling). It is the introverts who dare to be different. Introverts draw strength from within while extroverts draw strength from others. Extoverts could not live with themselves being the outcast with the wierd fetish. Who knows what strange things introverts keep locked inside them. I know there are thousands of lurkers out there who agree with me. I do concede that is probably the extroverts who get to have their tickling fantacies fullfilled.

in day to day life i'm an extrovert. in tickling (and being tickled) i'm also an extrovert. even as the ticklee, i'll force the issue, or push the sceen along, if you will.

I don't know if I'm an introvert or an extrovert... in personality tests I always come out with answers too close to both sides to really tell. I've been told I definitely have traits of both. I can be very aggressive, I can be very passive. A lot of times it seems I am more aggressive when it comes to tickling.

I'm a Gemini too and I wonder if there's something to that, since Geminis are supposed to have two different sides to their personalities. I do in many ways.

I've met both extroverts and introverts into this, through the West Coast Gatherings, NEST, MidWest NEST, the Southern Gathering, and the like.

Some are timid, some brash. Some are talkative, some nearly silent. Some can't stay in the room while we play. Most of those reading this have yet to meet others into this.

You and I, lady, will travel to meet others like us. We'll play wit' new friends, attend gatherings, and make a lot of friends.

I hope more, shy and bold, join us. 😉

I'm an extrovert... by a little bit. I was borderline on three of the four personality typings... just a little more extrovert than introvert, just a little more intuitive than sensory, just a little more feeling than thinking... but very much a perceptive. (Guess I'm not judgmental, huh? *lol*)

ANYway... from my other posts, you can tell I'm very much into reaction... giving and recieving... either gender will do for me. Reaction and emotion are basically what it is for me. I love the sound of laughter, even the helpless edge it gets when... physically induced.

This is interesting though... curious to see where this thread goes.

And if anybody can recall the personality typing website based on the four letter-types (I/E,N/S,T/F,J/P) or what the name of this test/study is, I'd be appreciative. I have not seen this in ages.

Poster Child for Introverts Everywhere.....

Thats me...look up introvert in the dictionary, and my picture is next to it. Not sure if that has anything to do with me liking tickling or not. I do know that, without the internet, being an introvert would greatly hinder me being involved in tickling. While, I have no problem chatting with someone online about my interest, I would never have the nerve to bring it up to someone in person, out of the blue. In fact, anyone I've ever met for tickling has been someone I first talked to online!

I used to be very INTJ but have become borderline S/N with age. Still an introvert, that's for sure. Sometimes I feel extroverted but then I step back and recharge my social batteries. At a loud party I'm the type that finds an interesting person and goes off into the stairwell with them and talks for hours, not caring what the crowd is doing.

I wonder if our base personalities generally fit when it comes to all things "fantasy." I know that my normal personality does seem to jive well with my tickle persona.

I'm an INFP according to the Myers-Brigg test. Although I can be quite forward with my trusted partner when I'm the tickler, and sometimes a bit domineering even as a ticklee, I am generally a very quiet and shy person. I'm painfully sensitive as well, which makes it hard to share my feelings for fear of being ridiculed or rejected. I have found in my own observations that those who are sensitive emotionally also tend to be sensitive to tickling. I don't know whether introversion/extroversion has an effect, but maybe people who suppress their feelings also are better able to suppress ticklishness. Good thread.

a note about the Myers-Briggs test

Figured it relevant to mention that the Myers-Briggs test isn't something that determines how you'll be for the rest of your life.

For example, I regularly fell into ENTJ, until I had a stroke. INTJ for a while thereafter, and then ENFP. Haven't done it in a while, but I'm guessing it's more ENFJ now.

The point is that you can change, as adults, all your life. Doesn't require having your brain get a blood clot, either. Folks going to a shrink or counsellor can effect such a change. Also, the situation you're in will determine such a change. Wish I could remember where I'd learned that folks at home regularly test differently than when they're in their work environment. Explains why Maria_Rose shows as INFP, but can get quite aggressive in a tickling scene.

Myers-Briggs helps, but it's not a be-all/end-all sort of thing. It's just informative for a facet of you. It's proven accurate for the scenario in which you're tested. In other words, where you take it tells you where you're most like your tested results.

Standardized personality tests have never been able to quite pin me down. I often act very much like an introverted, especially if there's no one around who I know. I just as often am a full extrovert, even in the presence of only one friend. It depends on the context, and I'm still not sure what brings one side out or the other.

As far as tickling goes, I'm still fairly reserved about it, although over the years I've become both braver and wiser about picking my moments.

Personality Types and Tickling

This is a subject that's infinitely interesting, although I expect there is as representative a cross section in this universe as there is for ticklers v. ticklees among the tickle people. I'm more of an extrovert in just about every way except regarding tickling. Tickling is such a private thing in me that I can't even talk about it any way except with my girl friend.

She, on the other hand is a tickler's dream in that she is nearly schizophrenic as to personality depending on where she is. She has always been extremely shy in private, a fact that makes tickling her that much more fun which I'll explain. She's a terrific tease, but only exercises this talent with those she is really close to, and comfortable with.

Yet since we were married many a long year ago, she has taught herself to be more outgoing in the public aspect of her life. She has taught herself to give interesting talks to large groups, which is an incredible accomplishment for a naturally shy person. Her work deals 100% with contracts and contract law, although she is not a lawyer. However, she is an extremely competent professional...always so in control of her situations professionally. She has on a number of occasions represented her company or constituents as a witness at trials and court hearings. The first time she ever did this made her a nervous wreck. She thought she would make a fool of herself, as good lawyers can make you look in their venue. She was so nervous that I took a day off work to take her to her hearing, and was able to go in and watch. For her hearing, she wore one of her completely professional business suits.

They say in a trial, a good lawyer will handle things in one of three ways: If he has the law on his side, he'll pound the law. If he has the facts on his side he'll pound the facts. If he has neither, he'll pound the table. When the opposing attorney started to question her about her presentation, he asked three or four simple questions. It was obvious to all concerned that she had her ducks in a row, so the attorney sent her away so he could go elsewhere to start pounding the table.

She is now this person in her professional life...so in control of all aspects of her situations. She has become one of these "go to" people for her specialty. You can imagine how fun it must be to take someone that in control, and see how in control she is when she is getting tickled half to death.

However, it's the shy yet teasing lass that has one thing I can't resist. Shy women, even if they find something uncontrollably funny, tend to try to control their laughter, at least as to volume. This is the way of my ticklee. She just doesn't like calling attention to herself. When I have her pinned down, I get mesmerized by the look on her face...and the sound. There's no demurring. There's no quiet laughing. There's no covering her mouth (that simply can't be allowed). There's no hunching of shoulders, at least to try to shrink her person. What there is is a gloriously beautiful face and a mouth that opens wider that is possible. Then there's loud, resonating laughing and begging which is an adventure in itself when a mouth is that wide open. It's such fun to make a woman talk while you tickle her.

Personality types present some of the MANY fun contradictions in tickling in my estimation. There are bazillions of shy people out there. My wife isn't the tiniest bit shy WHILE she is being tickled. It says right here that it's difficult for a ticklish lass to be shy WHILE she is being tickled. That's such a wonderful concept.
