Do your have health insurance on your furry ones?
XOXO

I may get that for Kiwi. The vet says her itty bitty kidneys are starting to show signs of "wear and tear". The last time she was in hospital it cost about $300.

Of course, *I* don't have health insurance right now, lol.

I don't have insurance on my birds although I believe it may be offered. I get them yearly check ups and feed them the best extruded pellets for each species needs. So far so good.

Being in the pet industry, I've got a pretty close look at insurance companies and my thoughts are if you can afford to put away the monthly premium in a savings account rather than give it to the insurance company, you're probably better off.

Thanks to all who answered!

Here's the impetus behind the question~had a scary incident over the weekend with baby Jack cat. (Accidental poisoning, totally an honest and silly mistake, not by me.) 15 minutes in the door, Dr. says "we're going to insert a cath and hydrate w/fluids, then give him some charcoal. In the next half hour, we're looking at $400-$500. And I'd like to keep him overnight..." It was a 24 hour emergency facility, so NO payment arrangements. Luckily everything turned out fine, baby had to stay overnite and they even gave back $425 of the $900 deposit!
Insurance would be $12 a month for kitties $19 for puppy...I don't want to insure EVERYONE in the house but I was thinking for the younger ones, might not be a bad idea. This could have easily cost $2000 according to the original estimate, a month's mortgage... :wow:

That's what I do...I was looking at health insurance for my animals (5 dogs, 3 cats, 4 birds, lol) and it's just more cost effective to put the money away in an account for such emergencies. If the emergency never arises, you have the money still, if it does come up, you can get the treatment you feel your animal needs. Honestly it's a win win situation if you do it that way.

I have yet to get insurance on my kitty (I plan to sometime in the near future....possibly by mid-July) but so far she's as healthy as can be.

Yep. £16.50 per month, and worth every penny for my special one.

ive been looking into it but havent commited to it yet. my 2 year old alaskan malamute is in perfect health and has regular check ups, but i want to be sure i can keep him that way. im interested to hear what others have to say here as well, some good points have been made here thus far....

Its best to get insurance (if you are definately getting it), when they are young and with no pre-existing medical issues. Also check out the clauses could find they don't cover for everything, another thing to take into consideration is whether or not you have to pay any excess too and if so how much.

With anything to do with insurance its weighing up the pro's and con's and having that little 'nest egg' for the 'just in case' scenario.

I hope Steph that your little one has made a good recovery, sounds like Jack has got a very caring 'Mummy', in these situations it seems the cost of it gets forgotten and the money is found from somewhere, but the 'babies' are worth it 🙂

awww....

Thanks sweetpea! :Kiss2:

Baby Jack is doing great, thanks to a fantastic Dr., some REALLY fast driving (It was after hours, Saturday and I had to go to THREE vet hospitals to find one that was 24 hours!) and some really good luck!
The puppy seems to be taking it hardest~he can't understand why everytime he goes to play with the little patient (they grew up together) he gets shooed away!

XOXO

I am so happy that Baby Jack is fine. We have been praying and thinking good thoughts down here for Baby Jack (and your mortgage too, hehehe).

And I thank you so much, Miss Goddess Smartypants! 😛 :redheart:

I think good thoughts about how attractive you and Steph are. :woot: And no need for cat insurance until they are on life #8.

Would be funny babe, if watching little Jack having seizures was something I enjoyed... :dropatear
