Yes, I'm serious friends and I need your help taking out the trash!
They are renters (section 8~what a shocker)🙄 I don't know what they were in for but I want them gone. Now. Any ideas are appreciated. TIA!

XOXO

Holy Crap, Steph...

...the fun never stops around you, does it? Yikes! Man, come to think of it, if you'd mentioned in here that there was a house across the street from you for rent, don't you think that your fan club would be dueling over who got to move in? How'd you get to find out the nature of your future neighbors, anyhow?

Steph, if enough of your neighbors feel the way you do, you may need to sign a petition asking that those guys be moved out of there. You definitely need to voice your thoughts to your Congressman. I could e-mail my lawyer friend and ask him for advice. I've known him for over 30 years... he won't mind.

Sawed off shotgun and some bullets and a bullet proof vest should do the trick 🙂 !

But no in all seriousness. yeah look into what featherfingers said look into making up a good clear petition and have people that live by you or that you know real well sign it and see where it goes from there. you never know it just may work

Steph, I just viewed the link TKPervert posted, and I have one or two questions... what are the chances that these convicts are rehabilitated? Maybe they're no longer a threat to society. I believe you may be entitled to know the nature of their crimes...but if they did their time, maybe they've learned their lessons and will be okay. I'm merely playing devil's advocate... I don't blame you a bit for wanting them out of there, but if they're turned away, that won't give them much hope for the future, either.

Here's my question Steph;

Are you upset because you found out they were convicts, or are you upset that they are still acting like convicts? If you answer Yes to the first question, then you may be risking yourself for discrimination later on. If you answered "yes" to the second question, then you have something legitimate to work with.

I do understand how you feel. I live in a two family house and the people downstairs are an extreme trip!!! They let their young children (6 & 4 yrs) alone in the yard unsupervised and they have destroyed the front of the house. I've tried to speak with the landlord and his silence tells me one thing-as long as the rent's on time, it don't bother him!!! It's not like he has to live with the screaming brats!

I hope you can find a solution to your problem. Once I get a job, I'm outta here!!!

Ok friends, let me clear something up real quick and then I'll try to answer your questions...

When I say "white bread" I meant suburbia, it wasn't a reference to anyone's skin color. There are people of all color around here and we all get along great.

TELL me about it Dan 🙄 Surprising I don't melt down more often, hmmm? 😛
I found out thru my next door neighbor, who has lived here 35 years and heads the neighborhood watch. He says they're up all nite from about 10 pm to 4 am. Wonder what THAT'S about (yeah, right) AND he saw one of em last nite, standing in the front yard in his BVDs, feeling the leaves on his tree for like an hour and a half (ecstasy?)

I do know that the neighborhood has written the owner of the home expressing concern. She hasn't responded, yet.

Frankie~it's possible they are rehabilitated but I don't care. Their vehicles are eyesores. It's obvious they're not exactly discreet. I asked Scottie (my neighbor)what the police say. He hasn't spoken with them yet. These guys, like just got here, another is scheduled to join them a fourth at the end of the week. Yippee. 🙄 It's a nice family neighborhood, lots of little kids. Let 'em "start over" elsewhere. I like the petition idea. Sure, if you can ask your friend, that'd be great.

Kis~I'm upset about both. We actually got another neighbor to move out eventually. They were asses and no one liked them. We basically froze them out.

I'm guessing with their behavior, it won't take more than a few calls to the police before they're out of here anyway. My concern is for the safety of the residents and the value of the neighborhood.

I'll go check out your link now TK~I don't have any problem with the program itself, BTW, just that criminals are getting to take advantage of it, when there's probably a single mom out there who's still on the waiting list...:sowrong:

Thanks to everyone!
XOXO

Here is an answer to your question, as per the HUD agency in New York, Steph:

There doesn't appear to be anything you can do to move them out, including a petition, unless their actions are illegal, or they have moved into the neighborhood under a pretext that would require their residence be classified as a halfway house, and it is not.

If they are section-8, then that means HUD has already approved the residence as a qualified section-8 dwelling. The landlord is receiving a subsidy from HUD for allowing section 8 tenants. You may actually do more to create a problem that does not exist by seeking to force them out.

I would check with HUD in your municipality to see if there are different guidelines that may prohibit them from living there, but I seriously doubt you'll have much success.

Certain neighborhoods are evaluated and approved for subsidized section 8 housing. If you don't have any other section 8 tenants in your neighborhood, and you can prove that these tenants represent a nuisance, have turned the property into an eyesore, present a threat, etc., (anything that places them outside the scope of the normal property care, or quality of lifestyle for your neighborhood), then you might be able to get an audience with a HUD inspector.

Good luck

And who knows? Maybe they're relatively harmless guys who were arrested for tickling womens' feet and stealing their shoes. Just leave an old pair of shoes next to the bed, and the window open. J/K 🙂

Steph, I just e-mailed my lawyer friend. I'm sure he'll provide an answer for the mere fee of one lunch. He's cool. I'll let you know what he tells me. Just for your info: he lived in a neighborhood like you described so he can totally relate to your situation.

Shadow!

Thank you sweetie~for your wise advice and humor 😉

I think I'll keep a safe distance, glad they're way down the street from me and wait for 'em to f'up so I can call the police. It's a tightly patrolled neighborhood, my bet is they won't stay long. I have heard cases where the neighbors literally drove the felons out. Child molesters...People put up signs on there own property on both sides of the house, handed out flyers on cars, etc. It was all legal. They basically shamed them out of the neighborhood. Thanks again honey!

XOXO

PS~thanks Frankie!

Good post Shadow. Why does life have to be so fucking complicated.
Steph, stay in the background, no confrontations please.

i will get slammed for this, but I think maybe you should give them a chance to prove if they are rehibiltated, people can change..but if they havent changed then take action

Will do TK hon, thank you...

Ah, sweet lil Mama~I wish you were right but judging by the behavior thus far, it doesn't look good 🙁
Hanging in there still I see!

XOXO

they need to notify everyone in the area if there is a convict living there like they do with rapists and pedifiles.

I think that might be a bit harsh Jester. Convicts can change there ways. Personally i think they should be given some time. Don't judge a book by it's cover and all that 😉

Actually cos, I think he might be right, but only for things like sex crimes like child molestation and rape. In Cali, anyway...

XOXO

Ah yes, here's Cosmo. A book's cover has value, as a way to judge the book.

Steph, only one section 8 residence allowed per city block, per HUD.

Check it out, easier said than done I know, but something to play with.

Still looking for cool websites....

Yes, TK~the last people who lived there were trash bags as well, but not criminals, just sloppy pigs. There's a couple other rentals on the block but they're well kept up.

Judging by their actions already, my guess is this eviction will be drug related too~maybe get em landed back to the hell they made for themselves and lived in prior 😛 Gonna enjoy calling in a "suspicious activity" on them...🙂 Evil little thing, ain't I???

Steph, if those guys are criminals they're liable to have weapons of sass destruction. Don't take the law into your own hands. Be careful out there. Mind your own business until they really disturb the peace. We don't want you to get hurt.

No worries sweetie. When I lived in apt complex, we got the crack dealers down below kicked out, no retribution, they had no clue. I'll be careful, like I said, they're several houses down, we don't have to look at each other, thank God!

XOXO

Jester is right. There is such a law. It's called the "Megan Law". In addition, you are right in that only applies to sex crimes. It's merely a law stating that all residents of a neighborhood have the right to know if there is a conviced rapist or child molester moving into a that neighborhood. It was started when a little girl named Megan was molested by one of the neighbors if memory serves me right. This family lived in NJ.

Steph, in regard to your plight, I'm afraid there is not much more I can add based on all the good posts prior to mine but if you are right about their behavior, they will get themselves removed before you or anybody else gets the chance.

I've got to agree with Smurfie on this one! Okay, their reputation isn't exactly stellar, but there is a thing called prejudice and it's not reserved just about race. It's about building stereotypes and opinions without knowing all the facts first.

I'm not saying you don't have cause for concern. You could be right-section8ers don't have great reputations in my city either. Handle it with an open mind and if they cause trouble, get rid of them with my blessings.
