I see what you're saying. But it's interesting to note that much of the early material still originated from producers. (I'm purposely excluding the artwork and stories sections, which I'm assuming are mostly original but personally know little about.) It's pretty easy to check the earliest posts in, say, the VidClips and Images sections and notice that most of the things there are reposts/copies/scans of what other producers had created. (I can recall quite a flap regarding copyrights that came about from this several years ago in fact.)
After all, a lot existed before the TMF. The TMF has since grown substantially since then, but the times have changed too. Nowadays, since so much revenue is based from clip sales and/or site memberships, reposting the material of existing producers is generally (but not always) frowned upon. So I wouldn't even expect to grow the TMF today the same way it happened at its inception.
That being said, another interesting thing to note is that when you scan the aforementioned sub-forums, the "foot-centricness" so often claimed is actually not readily apparent. It might be (and probably is) overrepresented in some ways, but at the top level there's actually a great deal of diversity there. I think this is because most producers really do cater to a variety of tastes.
It's always been a theory of mine that here we only have the appearance of an overwhelmingly "foot-dominated" forum rather than actual fact. However, it's difficult to tell for sure without referencing something quantifiable. I just haven't yet figured out an easy way to verify that--short of reviewing and cataloging every post. (lol) Anyway, I'd love to get some hard numbers on that.
While I think that it's necessary for people to let producers know what they want to see more of, I'd agree that a flood of complaints is not desirable. But, as evidenced by this very thread, sometimes there can be a fine line between the two.
