Which character would win in a fight? Robin Sena, or Re-l Mayer? I think it's an interesting question, if only because they bear many similarities as both characters and in the story they belong in.
I've just finished watching Ergo Proxy, so here's what I think from what I've observed:
Re-l Mayer is obviously in better physical condition. Several times throughout the series we see her execising and working out. We see her do squats, sit-ups, push-ups, and even one-armed push-ups (some people call these military push-ups and others simply call them push-ups).
Anyways, the girl can fight and could probably kick Robin's ass. She also is proficient with the use of firearms (her weopon of choice appears to be a sawed-off shotgun). So, she has a range advantage over Robin, as well as a close combat advantage.
However, half of this is cancelled out by the fact that Robin has supernatural powers and could toast Re-l in a second. In Witch Hunter Robin we see her demostrate her abilities of pyrokenesis, and in future episodes we see her master this ability as well as unlock other various powers, leading up to the revelation of her true powers. Suffice to say, Robin too is able to strike from a distance, but as the show demonstrates, nowhere near as accurately as a firearm (at least until later).
So, in my opinion, it boils down to whether Re-l can close in on Robin or not. Because Robin is expectedly going to be on the defensive unless she can keep a distance between them, Real is expected to be on offense. They say the best defense is a great offense. When I imagine what the surroundings would look like, I imagine that Real has an advantage of confined spaces, whereas Robin benefits from open ground.
Unfortunately, this decision comes based off of bias for the characters and which bias for which character is stronger, and I have to give it to Robin simply off of that. Its already pretty silly to wonder what anime character would pwn another character, when they're all just fictional characters, many of which can do things that aren't physically possible! XD
Maybe Re-l will grow on me yet, and I'll like her as much as I like Robin. There are already things I like about the character...so we'll see.
