popup blockers

Can anyone explain to me what is so complicated about blocking popup webpages?

I have the googletoolbar blocker, and IE has one built in, and I still get constant popups when websites feel like shoving them at me.

What could possibly be more straightforward than saying "Don't open any new windows from my web browser unless I open them myself?"

I'm no software engineer, but I feel like a rhesus monkey could define that parameter and make it stick, yet for the entire life of the Internet it's been a problem.

The problem here is its a battle between programmers. Those trying to get past browser defenses to put pop ups on your computer and those writing pop up blockers to stop them. If its a good blocker and written well it should thwart most attempts. I use Opera and actually have had zero problems now with pop ups. With IE it was more of an issue. 😀

I should mention that it is possible some pop-ups might be coming from malware on your computer. I am not sure what sort of security software you have but I did have that happen to me once where a virus I had was causing the popups to appear.

too if you want extra protection. I havent used it myself but they do make a anti spyware program I have used once or twice.

With google chrome I get no popups...on facebook I have all ads and sidebars blocked as well...
