Puppies Burned to death

Monday morning a resident of an Oklahoma town stumbled upon six dead puppies a two live ones surounded by the remains of fireworks. The dead puppies were assumed to have been killed by fireworks placed in their mouths. The mother of the puppies was not harmed, and another 4 1/2 month old puppy was treated for severe burns which make authorities think she was used as a moving target. As of now there are no leads or suspects.


Now, if it says there are NO suspects, why did I find this under the title "Teens and Fireworks Kill Puppies? Obviously, theyre blaming someone

I would suggest a slight change to your response - I say stick the fireworks down in their briefs/boxers and light them. Let these teenage losers live to tell others about the real reason that they will never be able to have kids.

This kind of shit makes me very upset and angry. The ones' responsible for this should be taken out for a drag behind a truck then locked up forever. It is bad enough when humans are cruel to other humans but when people are cruel to defenseless animals, THAT is beyond too much! Someone should beat the living shit out of those kind of people. There is NO punishment harsh enough to fit crimes such s this.😡

Whoever did this is cold, heartless, slime of the earth! The idea of intentionally being so vicious and cruel to a defenseless animal makes my blood boil! When and if they catch the scumbag(s)that did it, I feel that they should serve a stiff prison sentence to teach them a lesson, say about 10 years or more. Animals are often the most docile and sweetest of living things, especially most dogs and puppies, and anyone who could be as bloodless as this needs to feel the consequences of their indefensible actions! Just horrible!

While I agree with you for the most part, I think that there are a couple of circumstances to consider in this issue.

1) If we heard a story about several young babies/toddlers who had sufferred the same cruelty as these puppies I believe that you you have received even a larger outrage. Once again, babies and puppies are equally vulnerable and equally trusting.

2) I feel that a major reason that we have more sympathy for these puppies instead of human mortality is because the media has done an excellent job numbing us to real life and fiction. All you have to do is watch or listen to the news on a daily basis and the top stories generally deal with death. Watch any of the action adventures of Charles Bronson, Arnold Schwartzenneger, Bruce Willis... Somebody dies in the movie. In todays society we have become numbed to death in most situations unless it is extreme situations (ie terrorist attacks, beheaded hostages... ) We are just reacting to what is the new threashold of "ordinary death and murder" versus "intolerable cruelty". Sad but true.

Ughhh...I get that attitude more than I care to think. When I first decided to become a veterinarian, people would come up to me and say "You must not like people." What an illogical statement. Domestic animals have owners. We're the ones who are supposed to be responsible for taking care of them. But again, because of the pet over-population problem, many animals are viewed as objects or possessions (which is how they are defined by law in most states). I can assure you that vertebrates, and more specifically mammals, do in fact feel pain. And the sadistic, malicious actions of those who committed this heinous crime shows a lack of caring fundamental to those we consider human. In the veterinary community, we are encouraged to watch for signs of animal abuse or neglect as these are often people indifferent to other living beings who are the next wife beaters or child abusers themselves. In short, individuals who display this lack of compassion/willingness to hurt those unable to defend themselves (like mgk said, similar to children) are sociopaths waiting to happen. And Natural Tickler, the reason I think we sound so morally outraged when this happens to animals is that unlike their human counterparts, animals have no voice of their own. In most instances of human massacre, the family and friends of the victims will speak out for them. I would not be any less outraged, however. I just find it sadder when it happens to those whom society has failed - the unwanted or the unloved.
