I'm going to cross the USA, and I just wanted to get input on the most economical way to do it. My end goal is New Jersey, and I'm not planning on going back to the west coast. I currently do not have a car; just a bunch of stuff that should probably go with me to school.

"Bunch of stuff" is code for U-Haul, I think. I prefer hitchhiking, but my chainsaw wants to give the TSA a day to remember! 😉

Drive. It's more fun to see a bunch of shit than fly over it. But if it's cheaper, fly.

I'm normally all for driving, but if you're going all the way across the country by yourself, it's probably cheaper to fly. How much stuff you have is something to consider, though.

Just outta curiosity, if you don't have a car how are you planning to drive?

I would get a car before then. It's looking cheaper to fly; I'm just worried about transportation once I get over there... If I fly I can mail my stuff to myself. I had to leave home in a hurry when I turned 18 (abusive parents), so all my belongings pack easily into two boxes, and that includes my bed. So, yeah... that's my situation.

I'd try swimming, but they already tried and failed to discover a surface waterway across the USA. Second suggestion?

Moped sounds like fun! I'll look into that as well... at least it would be relatively easy to repair on the fly. Now, to find sleeping space...

If you have a car, drive. See the sights. If not, just fly...or take a train. 😀

If you only have two boxes of stuff, I'd ship them and fly. Or possibly even check them as baggage. Buy a vehicle when you arrive, seems like much less hassle.

I remember seeing a website specializing in ride shares for people driving long distances who want to split the gas, people needing to move their cars across the country who hooked up with people who need to travel, etc. That might be the most economical...if you do some Google searches you can find sites like that. Bus is another option, it's slow but cheap and flexible.
