Well, our Relay for Life benefitting the american cancer society is over, and things went swimmingly...LITERALLY!
Things were going great as usual till six pm when the first thunderstorm hit. MASSIVE rain, puddles six inches deep in parts of the event site. We had to close up the bandshell because the rain was coming down so hard, and i personally feared being electrocuted with all the deejay equipment.
About 8pm it let up, and the festivities continued, with the Miss-ter Relay competition. One guy from each team was required to dress in ladylike garments and compete for the coveted crown. Despite My awesome Bugs Bunny-Queen Brunhilda getup, I did not win. But, the boys did raise $2000 in an hour!
Things proceeded after that till 2 am when the next storm hit. It didn't end, continuing all the way to the morning. We ended up calling the event about three hours shy of the scheduled closing ceremonies. We're planning an offical wrap up bbq for next week.
The bad news? It rained like a mother.
The good news? We still beat last year's total, taking in $173,000!!!!!!!
Cancer doesn't take a day off because of rain, but neither did we😀
