agreed, i'd rather burn it than use it in action.

now american engineering is tha sh*t!

i love that OICW Land Warrior.

seen an article a year or 2 ago about upcoming military technology talking about sweet new military gear, including a HUD (Heads Up Display) for Spec Op soldiers.

Lets not forget that modern guns are a british invention, that birmingham was the largest gun manufacturing centre of the world, and I do believe that self loading, i.e. automatic and semi automatic weapons, were a british invention by the guy that owned Lee enfield.

THe British army is on a big recruitment drive at the minute for IT capabl;e people, because they are upgrading a lot of there field gear and such like. Was something I considered myself, but I doubt army life, even if it is working in an office somewhere, is for me...

I think I've seen that one too. The mention of HUDs for special ops soldiers sounds familiar anyway.
For some reason, I always think of the HUDs in the Dark Forces games, with health, ammo count, and personal shield strength.
Hmmm, personal shields. Maybe that's the next thing we should try to invent...

haha, good luck. shield, i.e. energy shields you mean are decades, if not centuries away.

i forgot it all exatly, but mostly, it had sensors in the gloves that read the hand signals and showed the signal in the other soldier's heads up display, a bunch of other sweet stuff, too. i shoulda saved the article.

on a sidenote, i really love the new Cammance helicopters, they're pretty bad ass.

Norm, OICW is HK, that means German technology and British money...

...

And about the M16, without looking it up, I can say that is one of the most widely recognised guns in the world, barring the AKs.

Over the Kalashnikovs, M16 family has a better off the shelf accuracy.
Drawback is higher operative requirements.
That is, you can't dip an M16 in mud or sand, and expect it to work.

An AK47/74 might.

...

Why? Because the gas pistons in an M16 are smaller and more fragile, among the other things.

An AK is sturdier, even if a little known flaw makes it very susceptible to barrel damage, if you can damage the overslung gas duct, just behind the muzzle.

*Comanche 😉 .

Yeah, that's the same one I saw. I don't have it either though. And sadly, I think you're right about shields being that far off. A pity really.
And Kalamos, thanks for the comparison there. Looks like it's a toss-up, depending on whether you want durability or accuracy.

Welcome.

Don't forget terminal ballistics either.
AK74's 5.54 rounds are slightly better at sending creeps to sleep than 5.56 are.
They tumble a bit more, thus making a mess of your wound better...
And I am using the term loosely...

...

AK47s employ 7.62 Nato rounds, which arguably inflict more damage than 5.56 ammo.

You'd have to pack the venerable HK G3, or the newer HK G37 to have roughly the same firepower as afforded by an AK47, on a western weapon.

Ok, this is really informative. It's pretty easy to see why the AK-47 is one of the most, if not the most, well known rifles in the world today.

...

What surprises me is, none of you is even remotely put off by the fact I seem so familiar with guns...

I like the Fabrique Nationale FiveseveN the best. There's not a single way you can talk me out of that... I mean, unless you can find it in A revolver... mmm... 6 shots of pure death... unless I miss... then I'm dead.

Well I'm being reserved with my posts cause I want to sound at least a bit girlie ^^ .

Well, Kal, compared to some of the things I've seen in my 21 years, an Italian helmet with a knowledge of firearms all over the world is nothing.

Except for the minor problem of not being able to buy it.
Not off the Belgian shelf at least...

It loads a 20 shots magazine; American laws usually limits handguns at 10 or less.
You'd be paying a fortune for a war gun, relatively ineffective against most unarmed targets, and without being able to fill it to its full capacity.

Yeah, that would make one of those pretty hard to come by, legally at least.
Well hey all. It's pretty late, and this has been a long day. Good night! *rolls out*
