While there's a great variety of ways in which to host a munch, I'm going to start this thread to provide suggestions. Anyone wanting to jump in with constructive additions is encouraged to do so.
For info on what a munch is, check Wikipedia. It's a recent term used to describe a social meet in a public place, and dates back to when the Palo Alto Burgermunch used to meet at Clarkes. It's no longer there, alas, but the idea lives on.
Where: Pick a location that's public, and has casual seating. A coffee house, bar, lounge, pub, or even a park in good weather that has a Hot Dog cart nearby. The idea is that you want to provide a way for folks to see you before you see them. Give them a moment to consider, see that you're sane, and approach.
When: Time's up to you. I choose weekends these days, but used to do weekdays. Weekends have had better attendance for me. YMMV.
Tips: Point folks to your picture, here, or describe something you'll wear (a hat, pin, tie, etc.) or have an object on your table (anything identifiable, from football to feather).
Avoid boozing heavily. People get nervous in new social settings, and that's a crutch you don't want to have people using in excess.
Playing publicly can be fun, but the only restraint that should be applied is the level of play. Casual tickling is sociable. Gang tickling can get police called.
