I POSTED THIS THREAD LAST NIGHT... I FOUND OUT THIS MORNING THAT THE MESSAGE WAS A HOAX. DO NOT CALL THE PHONE # OR VISIT THE WEBSITE. YOU'LL ONLY BE WASTING YOUR TIME!:

A friend of mine just sent me the following e-mail. She's a responsible adult so I know this isn't a joke. I've already registered mine... to avoid headaches, register yours ASAP:

In a few weeks, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls. You will be charged for these calls.

Call this number from your cell phone 888-382-1222. It is the national DO NOT CALL list. It only takes a minute of your time. It blocks your number for 5
years. Please pass this on to everyone you know who doesn't want to be hassled. Or you can go to this web site and register:www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

Boy... Can't believe how much nonsense is propagated through e-mail!! Thanks for the timely warning Featherfingers, but I would seriously doubt something like that could ever be true... Would be a bit too much!! Although, considering they still let McDonald's run their business, who's to tell really....

Seriously, the lady who sent me that e-mail must have been fooled herself. She doesn't put up with crap like that. I'll have to send her that hoax link. Thanks for the info, ASU and TklDuo-Ann.

I registered on that bogus site! I hope that doesn't mean I opened my computer up to all kinds of viruses! Life hands me a lot more lemons than I deserve... good thing I like lemonade.

If by "register" you mean put important personal information into a form and then submitted it, the least of your worries should be viruses.

I just checked out that 'bogus' website. Apparently, it is an official Government website. Whoever created the e-mail just used the link to make the e-mail look more official. I contacted an FTC member who should be able to confirm this. I guess the lesson here is DON'T BELIEVE EVERY E-MAIL YOU READ!

'Ya got that right!! Thanks to FF who only tried to help but unfortunately got burned.

Here's something that's not a hoax:

You can search and find almost anyone on this site. I'm writing them to remove my info from their database. With my last name being somewhat unique, it's easier to find me. I've tested this and so should you. If you're there, there's instructions on how to be removed.

Maybe I'll post a separate thread so 15,000 members know that there's a site generating personal contact information about them.
