It was a dark, dive-looking local bar that occasionally hosts some of the best in the music biz (Y&T, Sactown's own Tesla, Jake E Lee, etc...) Last night, they had John Waite (maybe my favorite musician on the entire planet!)
It was an all acoustic set, just him and his long time guitarist, Luis Maldonado. The place had a crowd of MAYBE 75 people. I got to sit about 10 feet away from him. OMG, it was so amazing. He has a new album out. The voice is still great and he looks JUST like he did when I heard my first Babys tune. He and Luis sipped Merlot and joked with the crowd in between songs. This particular pub has one of those unique hometown reps so that no matter who is playing, if you hang out long enough you get to speak to whoever you came to see. I don't do the autograph thing but I have always ADORED this guy so I hung out, got to meet him, shake his hand, tell him how much I loved his lyrics, it was just amazing...I loved his solo stuff best but as far as I know, it has never been available on CD, except the soundtrack songs. (And of course the Babys and Bad English is all on Cd as well...) Grrr...🙂
Was anyone else a fan growing up?
XOXO
