It was a dark, dive-looking local bar that occasionally hosts some of the best in the music biz (Y&T, Sactown's own Tesla, Jake E Lee, etc...) Last night, they had John Waite (maybe my favorite musician on the entire planet!)

It was an all acoustic set, just him and his long time guitarist, Luis Maldonado. The place had a crowd of MAYBE 75 people. I got to sit about 10 feet away from him. OMG, it was so amazing. He has a new album out. The voice is still great and he looks JUST like he did when I heard my first Babys tune. He and Luis sipped Merlot and joked with the crowd in between songs. This particular pub has one of those unique hometown reps so that no matter who is playing, if you hang out long enough you get to speak to whoever you came to see. I don't do the autograph thing but I have always ADORED this guy so I hung out, got to meet him, shake his hand, tell him how much I loved his lyrics, it was just amazing...I loved his solo stuff best but as far as I know, it has never been available on CD, except the soundtrack songs. (And of course the Babys and Bad English is all on Cd as well...) Grrr...🙂
Was anyone else a fan growing up?

XOXO

John Whaite had one of his songs featured on the Game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Personally I've always been a bit of Chicago Fan

Soundtrack To A Turning Point

Yeah as a matter of fact I got my first girlfriend Michele stolen from me by my best friend by the tune of "When I See You Smile" by Bad English. It was playing on the radio when I heard the news, I was 17 years old...the beginning of the end for me.🙁

Hey steph how about this one:

"Hey girl, havent you heard,

HEAVEN IS A FOUR LETTER WORD!

That one i love too.

Plus they had some real nice videos too. So dramatic and romantic too.

Sorry to hear it EE, they played it last night...

And USA~he did that one too!
XOXO

Saw Bad English in concert opening for Whitesnake in Cedar Rapids about...What was it? 1990? Both bands were worth the admission. Bad English performed originals as well as tunes by The Babys and Journey.

The Babys. Ohmygod. I do remember their first hit Stateside, "Isn't it Time", back in 1978, but the memories kick in like crazy for something a little more obscure, one that I associate with the all-too-brief period I lived in Montreal, a single from 1980 called "Back On My Feet Again". I still have a copy of that one down in my basement.

Those were great days. Shit, I had hair.

I also remember the video for "Missing You"...the Asian girl. Haven't seen it in 20 years...

Steph, being an 80's person as I am, I will have to say that is way too cool. I think it is great you went Friday night. Is that the first time you have seen him in concert? I remember going to concerts in the 80's and early 90's. Def Leppard,Europe,Night Ranger, Huey Lewis,Cover Girls and others. Great concerts. So to see John Waite in that setting and being so close must have been a dream come true. I am really happy you had fun. Bless your heart sweetie.🙂

It was the first hon, in all these years of being a fan! Oooooooooo, I saw night Ranger back in the day too~good times!

XOXO

Best of times. I can still hear "When you close your eyes do you dream about me? When you close your eyes do you dream about me? Do you still dream about me?" I love those 80's music. Great stuff. Make you think back doesn't it Steph?🙂 😛 Great times. Party really hard and up all night😛

I also remember the video for "Missing You"...the Asian girl.

Believe it or not I still have that vid recorded! I fell SO hard for that girl! By chance, does anyone know who the actress was?

Rxx

It was the Asian gal right? I used to own a video of their tunes but I think I sold it when DVD came out. I'll see if I can track it but I don't know off hand.

XOXO

I wish I could get the link to the actual recording, but this'll have to do. This is my favorite Babys song and of course, I dedicate it to Steph... I'd better reread the lyrics to make sure the words aren't insulting...

Everytime I Think Of You
The Babys
Lead vocals: John Waite
(J. Conrad, R. Kennedy)

Everytime I think of you
It always turns out good
Everytime I've held you
I thought you understood
People say a love like ours
Will surely pass
But I know a love like ours
Will last and last

Chorus:

But maybe I was wrong
Not knowing how our love should go
(How our love, how our love should go)
But I wasn't wrong
In knowing how our love would grow
(How our love, how our love would grow)
And everytime I think of you
Everytime
Everytime I think of you
Every single time
It always turns out good

Seasons come and seasons go
But our love will never die
Let me hold you darlin'
So you won't cry
Cause people say that our love affair
Will never last
But we know a love like ours
Will never pass

(Chorus)

People say a love like ours
Will surely pass
But I know a love like ours
Will last and last

But maybe I was wrong
Not knowing how our love should go
(How our love, how our love should go)
But I wasn't wrong
In knowing how our love would grow
(How our love, how our love would grow)

And everytime I think of you
Everytime I think of you
Everytime I think of you
It always turns out good

Everytime I think of you
Everytime I think of you
Everytime I think of you (everytime)
Everytime I think of you (think of you)
Everytime I think of you (everytime)
Everytime I think of you (think of you)

(Repeat and fade)

i suppose its still tempting to stop the world and melt with someone!

most likely that sister christian chic !

Yeah, that was my time, too.
Just now, I thought of a good show I went to, at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic...John Rafferty and Beaver Brown, with the Romantics as the warm up. I was there with my best friend. I was there primarily to see the Romantics, a tremendous garage rock band if there ever was one, I saw them several times. The Beaver Brown bunch wasn't bad, if you could get away from that faux Springsteen crap from the soundtrack of that celluloid excrement known as "Eddie and the Cruisers" (I still remember my sister's reaction to 'Tender Years', -"Jesus Christ, they stole that piano part from Springsteen! That's 'Promised Land'!"). Lotsa girls with very short pants and boots with multi-color hairdos and feathers hanging from their earlobes, and the boys were very clean cut with short hair, a far cry from the concerts I attended at the Garden only a few years before, they spiritual children of Ronald Reagan. And, of course, I had hair. Those were the days...
