S. Korea Begins Live Artillery Drills

The SoKo's just started their live drills after ordering civilians into the air raid shelters...

YEONPYEONG ISLAND, South Korea – South Korea ordered residents of front-line islands into bomb shelters as it insisted on pressing forward with live-fire drills near disputed waters Monday despite North Korea's threat to retaliate, sharply spiking tensions.

U.N. diplomats meeting in New York failed to find any solution to ease fears of a new war on the Korean peninsula, nearly a month after the North shelled South Korea's Yeonpyeong Island in retaliation for earlier artillery exercises there. The North has said it would respond even more harshly to any new drills from the Yellow Sea island.

South Korea's move to launch new drills from Yeonpyeong brought tensions to their highest point since the North's Nov. 23 bombardment, which killed two South Korean marines and two civilians in the North's first attack targeting civilian areas since the 1950-53 Korean War.

I could imagine that dark hellish society at night. Complete darkness and cold.

Should the shooting start in earnest, I'm hoping the people of NoKo rise up and and overrun Dear Leader's bachelor pad, where that tiny light is coming from.

Love feet, with all do respect! How is any military drill ok? The point would not be to defend South Korea, but to destroy North Korea! Is their not innocent people their who don't want to die? Of course!!

Think about it liberals... how ITF do you continually attach moral equivalency to both parties. The North has attacked the South numerous times, including kidnappings of the civilian population. The South will one day have to step it up, which is imminent. Countries have the right to defend themselves against aggression.

Nobody attaches moral equivalency to both sides, and anyone who does (or even imagines that people would) is a complete tool; the problem is there are a lot of barriers to the South taking down Il Juche and his Happytime Fun-Republic. Even a cursory glance at the logistics of a war between North and South reveals the potential for massive destruction and loss of life. For example almost a quarter of the South's 48 million people live in Seoul; which is easily within range of the North's long range gun batteries. Shelling a small village produces huge casualties, so imagine what would happen if you were to shell a megacity like Seoul.

The problem is, for the sake of the people of the North, the North needs to end.
