Saddest Movies EVAH!!

"Ring of Bright Water".......an obscure movie from the early 70s starring an unbelievably cute otter. Damn my friends mom who took us kids to see this thinking it was a children's movie and making me cry!!!:Grrr:

"Requiem for a Dream" -- not just sad. Soul-grindingly depressing stories of drug addiction that leave you feeling as though someone just slimed gloom onto you by the end... I'm a Darren Aronofsky (director) fan, and I have the DVD, but I just won't watch this again. Never realized how much music and sound-editing could really add to the depressive tone before this film.

I sincerely wish I could erase my memory of that very last scene. Ugh.

you guys....

How could you forget "Terms of endearment"???

that scene in the hospital when Debra Winger tried to explain to the little boy to stay strong despite her leaving...a tear jerker for sure

It's been mentioned already, but the original Brian's Song.Dark Victory starring Bette Davis, 1939.Just two off the top of my head.I'll think of more later.

This. Found myself curled in a fetal position I hadn't even realized I'd gone into by the end of Requiem. That movie just creates such a profound sense of despair.

More recently, Snow Angels had me feeling pretty down. So many ups and downs in that movie, and a heartbreaking ending.

The Wrestler
Dead Man Walking
Philadelphia
The Elephant Man

Saw "The Elephant Man" when it came out. I was by myself in the middle of a packed movie theater.....and everyone around me was crying. Loud!

"Sophie's Choice" is also one of those hits-you-hard-&-fast movies.

"Empire of the Sun" is a good one, with a semi-happy ending, actually. Semi-happy.

These two, not so much sad, but just so depressing and hopeless:

"Dancer in the Dark" & "Hannibal";

What is sad bout Hannibal ?

"Ass to ass!"

But seriously, that is a good film.

A new one i watched today that i'd nearly forgotten about:

The Man Who Fell to Earth .. so yeah.. it's chock full of beautiful ethereal David Bowie soft porn *pant pant* but it's got one of the saddest most thought provoking endings ever.. argg... noo..
