I was looking at some of the Saddest Songs lists online...I was wondering what everyone else might think...
A few songs that come to mind at the moment:

George Jones - He Stopped Loving Her Today (Johnny Cash's version is a little more depressing, in my opinion)

The Band - It Makes No Difference

Black Sabbath - Changes

Tim McGraw - Don't Take the Girl

Sarah McLauchlin: Arms of the Angels

I swear I wanna go hang myself when I hear that fucking song. So, I avoid it like the plague! LOL

That song is pretty depressing. The same song from the Animal Rescue commercial, right?

George Jones - He Stopped Loving Her Today

That was actually the first song that came to mind, that and the song he sings called "the grand tour".

Johnny Cash's rendition of "Hurt" by NIN is probably one of the saddest songs I ever heard just because of the video that accompanies it and the fact that his wife died soon after and he died just a couple years afterward.

I know I'm dating myself with this one but

You and me against the world - Helen Reddy

About a single mom and her little one trying to make it.

Fiona Apple - Never Is A Promise

Death Cab For Cutie - Follow You Into the Dark

I think I can listen to "Never is a Promise" and manage to keep my composure, but that Death Cab song gets me crying like a baby every time, and while it's a good song, I just can't listen to it.

For me Under The Bridge by the Red Hot Chili Peppers was a sad song and a favorite of mine.

Johnny Cash's rendition of "Hurt" by NIN is probably one of the saddest songs I ever heard just because of the video that accompanies it and the fact that his wife died soon after and he died just a couple years afterward.
Actually he followed her in death only 4 months later. I also agree and love his version of the song.

"That's My Job" by Conway Twitty gets me every time. I can't help thing of everything in my life my dad has done for me.

(Fast forward to 35 seconds in, because someone thought it necessary to edit Taps before it.)

This one if one of few that hit me

Angel's Son - Sevendust

it's a song about Lynn Strait, who died in a car accident in 1998. a touching song, but the video adds to the impact.

Grab a bunch of Kleenex for this one. The song is made even sadder when you realize that Randy died of leukemia at the age of 48, on January 12, 2004 (that suitcase dance has to be the silliest thing I've ever seen):

I never listened to much Death Cab For Cutie...I'll check that song out, though...They did a great cover of "Rockin' Chair" by The Band...that's a pretty sad song when you listen to the lyrics

How about Shilo by Neil Diamond?

''Lead Me Home'' by Shadows Fall

''Breathe No More'' by Evanescence
