Depends on the individuals and the kind of play. A similar discussion was had recently here 🙂 And for the fetlife'ers, there was also one had here. 🙂

My personal stance?

I think the term "safeword" is thrown around a bit. There's the safeword that's actually a SAFEword, used to say "Hey, something's not cool here," and then there's the more playful "safeword" that is kind of like, "Such and such sports team blows" or "I'm not tough"..something that the lee doesn't want to say just out of stubbornness, and getting him/her to say it is just a playful way to say, "I win."

That's what we're talking about in this particular situation. 🙂
