Interestingly, this area was made for the gatherings held by TickleChgo in the Chicago area. Been a while. Surprised one o' that crew ain't been in this thread lately. FWIW, while CHEST is his, it ain't hard to organize a social meet. They're called munches, and involve someone organizing it and picking a public location, like a burger joint or pub or such, and telling everyone a time and date to meet.
Organizers can get clever and say "look for the table with a Mickey Mouse statue on it" or "look for a guy with 5 earrings and a lot of hair." West Coast Gatherings actually screen all the attendees and fuss a bunch more, but it's not hard or unsafe to host a munch somewhere. No harder or more dangerous than going to a bar, really.
