Wow I have the local news on now and this CNN story was filed 5 minutes ago. There is no mention yet on the local news they are still talking about the flood here. I guess they will report this shortly.

gunman walked into a dorm, began shooting...went across a field, entered another building, entered a classroom...and emptied a gun magazine or whatever...at least twenty dead....twenty eight more injured, the gunman among the dead...and probably more fatalities expected...

What the hell is the matter with people today? Must they solve every problem with guns?? Why would someone do such a thing? Is human life that worthless to some? I'm sorry folks, this simply makes no sense to me at all!

I just left a vm for my kid; she's in college and I don't know if she heard the news. You raise your kids to adulthood and think you've done something; society has gotten so crazy and unable to cope to stress and problems, you don't know if your kid will be caught in their crosshairs or not.

My thoughts go out to the victims and their families as well as the family of the gunman. That might sound crazy, but they're going to be judged because of his actions and times are going to be rough for quite awhile.

I just got off my phone with 2 people I know at the VT campus, people whom have attended my speeches and several I met through them. 3 others I know I have not talked too yet, but Ive left messages and pray that they call me back.

Last report I saw was 29 dead and more than 20 wounded. The news reports you can find online are better than anything I could say, so go to your newssites and check up.

Truly a horrible event.
Sad.

death toll up to at least 31...this is the worst violent action in college history, any college here in the U.S.

this one student is saying how after the guy left the classroom, after shooting several people, he tried to get back in, and these students barricaded the door...i can't imagine what they were going through...the student says the gunman said not a word, didn't say get down, was rather matter of fact like, and began methodically shooting..

A family member of mine and a few friends all go to VA Tech... Thank goodness they all seem to be okay.

I don't get it. Why would someone want to just wander into a classroom/dorm and just start shooting people? What would the man hope to gain by this?

It's sad, confusing, and I wish the gunman was still alive so he could be strangled. >.< The sicko would deserve it a hundred times over.

we don't know that for sure yet, do we? and how do you suggest stopping him? when i say gun control, i mean we as regular citizens should not be allowed to own an entire arsenal, as he so tragically must have..

i started reading an article on what happened. if this was mentioned eairler in the thread i apologize. that article said that it took the university 2 hours into the secong shooting to start to nitify students....through an email.

this was an unspeakable act and my prayers go out to all the students and faculty of the Virginia Tech.

i just don't get what's going on in the world these days. 🙁

its so horrible. im in tears and im not even involved. people in this world are sick bastards. those people DID NOT deserve to die no matter what they did or didn't do. may they rest in peace <3 and my heart goes out to the families and friends of the victims

What a shame and a tragedy. My heart goes out to all of the people that were involved and their families. The only bright side to this mess is the fact that the person who did this to them is dead, and I can care less if he shot himself or was taken out by the law...one less freaking maniac with emotional problems in this world.

Is it really that easy to obtain a gun now-a-days? I just wished i could understand what goes on in the minds of those who commit these acts... It is truly unfair that others should suffer for someone's own inability to solve their own problems rationally. My respects to all of those who lost someone precious in this saddening event.

This is what I understand after talking to some people there and reading news reports. This could of course change...this is just what I understand.

It was a jilted loved who went after one person...then decided if he was going to go down for one, might as well go crazy. The weapon might have been a semi-auto pistol how it was obtained I dont know yet.

The police actually didnt have just revolvers Az, many of the Sheriffs Dept were armed with AR-15's rifles, basically M-16's.

I know this might breakdown eventually into a gun control issue, but it should not because it could be argued on both sides. If people there could carry on their own, someone might be less willing to get into a firefight. If this was the route they were taking no matter what (it seems this is the case) than perhaps he might not have used a gun if he was determined to kill someone and more. Perhaps he would have built a bomb, set the place on fire, used his car as a battering ram.
We need to focus on the violence and the what caused the shooter to act in the way he did. Not focus on the weapon...because as its been said all the time and I know it will be unpopular to say, but it is still the fact. The gun or ammo alone can not hurt anyone. It all depends on who's hands the weapon is in. If this was a semi-auto or something, I do believe restrictions need to be placed and yes there is no reason for someone to own an arsanal.

But again, Id rather focus on what caused it, not the weapon of choice.

And yes, latest Ive heard is now 33 dead and at least 17 injured.
That campus will never be the same again.

Sad.

And whats worse is I hope no one uses this as a political platform. Although I know its comming and that in itself will be deplorable.
Update: Ive heard from one more of my friends there..still waiting on 2 more.

Of course you guys have this holy mantra..."the second ammendment"....(no one ever quotes the whole thing of course) ...which gets you off the hook when it comes to getting something done about gun control. The other argument against gun control is that its all just gone too far,nothing can be done, whats the point? all those guns are out there, its too late.

Its interesting to compare that kind of reasoning to "the war on terror". Now that is of course a very different matter! foriegn countries are invaded, thousands killed, billions of dollars spent, all manner of laws are passed in Washington without anyone blinking an eye. Passport controll has been revolutionised,immigration overhauled,air travel in the US has been transformed in to a frustrating protracted ordeal.

No measure is too expensive or too inconveanient when it comes to preventing death caused by crashing an airliner in to a skyscraper, but when it comes to the tiresome irritating nuisance of Americans shooting each other to death on a daily basis, whats the verdict?....." Oh well, gee shucks, we have this constitution you see, and er, well lots of folks already have guns so....hey....what can we do?"


Whats the US expression?......."Gimme a break will yah!!"
