So I got a question for the mods.

I still blame Rod Serling, I can still only tickle in black & white

I think the best part was all those bitchin' pictures of Annie's bare feet!!! Yum & yummer. Sonicare stock doubled. What a tangled web we wieve, I blamed it on the upper-body dweebs. IF I want to laugh at myself I'll just pick up a mirror. What's 7 more years of bad luck to an old fart like me? Thanks to all for a two for one forum special. Thanks for putting it all back.....***searches in vain for even one pic of Annie's bare feet***

Can anyone really disagree with or refute what I've said? Dalek was offering a serious concern, I offered a serious response.

Fancy that.

See you in August, Crystal.

Erm.

Definetly twasn't referencing your post, man.

Beunos Noche.

I hear you, Cap. I voiced similar concerns. Fortunately, I wasn't online at the time, or else I'd probably have been put off as well. I can see both sides, though I tend to lean more to the side of rolling my eyes over the whole thing. The pranksters were just trying to have fun. The folks that didn't like it generally thought it went too far. In the end, 'tis over now. Thank God for that.

I looked around wondering what the hell was going on then left. I thought it was dumb but I'm not going to get bothered by the internet and what someone does to one site I look at.

It brought out people's true colors though, both the accused and the accusers. It reminded me of the old fights on Yahoo and mIRC.

People will indicate the environment they wish to cultivate by those people and behaviors to which they offer reward and tribute. Consider who received validation (directly or backhandedly -- however you want to consider it, if you think that makes any difference), and consider those whose profile was raised. Consider how many people long before this prank offered continuous validation and various forms of tribute, and how many will do so long after. Understand that to receive that level of recognition, good-natured ribbing, and acceptance from this group, those are the models of behavior people should follow.

If it is your interest to achieve those results from this set of people, your path is clear.

If it is not, seek your own path.

If the sort of behavior that’s rewarded here doesn't sit well with you, either let it roll off, or perhaps you should consider this as a sign that it's best to move on.

There are, of course, alternatives. Perhaps they are better recipients of your patronage and participation.

It's not a matter of whether or not it can be refuted. It's more about who is willing to speak up and get even further roasted in public for disliking the idea that conforming is the only way to be accepted here.

Yes, Dalek did post a serious concern. Well-thought out, well worded and dead-on. He said publicly what I've been hearing privately ever since this occurred.

What I just read from you, to paraphrase, seemed like it was a very wordy "Accept the fact that unless you choose to follow the path of conformity, you either need to put up, shut up or get the hell out, because your opinions and how you feel are totally irrelevant here. You're not welcome if you don't care for the current hierarchy, and here are the places you can take yourself. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out."

Does that sum it up?

This forum belongs to Jeff and he has every right do whatever he wants with it. That is irrefutable and will remain so, without question. But preaching "Conform, bow down or get out!" to those who want to find their own place, to be heard and to be accepted in this community without standing in the shadows is absolutely incorrect, and I for one am horrified that any member to this forum, new or seasoned, would be given that idea.

Yes. I disagree with you on that point. Whole-heartedly.

Mistress Aura, I bow to you. What a post. That's really what bothered me about the whole thing. Not necessarily the prank itself, though I didn't care for it. I did get a general sense of "we don't care what anyone else thinks" from a number of folks involved in it. I don't begrudge anyone their creativity or right to express themselves. I have a huge problem with anyone with a dissenting opinion to be (potentially) looked down upon.

Thank you! I have for the most part stayed out of this mess, however that is exactly what I think and feel about it as well!

Never said it was the only way, but seeing as how history is the best predictor of future outcomes, the history of certain styles of behavior reaping reward here can't be denied.

If I'd meant to say that, I'd have said it.

Far be it from me to quash dissent. Perhaps you don't know me that well. I very much like dissent. But it's not his Forum. It's not mine. Far better he understand up front the limits of his abilities to change things.

I never said people should conform.

I recommended the path that history showed would offer reward, if they sought that particular reward.

I said people shouldn't expect this place to change for them.

I offered alternatives to people who want to try something else.

Please go back and read it again.

Oh, and yeah, I'm wordy.

Glad we agree.

Aura... Myself, having been threatened in the past for daring simply disagree with a Moderator on something, you and I can be horrified together. I'm glad we're united in being horrified on that point. It's a shame our views on the reality of matters here suffer such disparity.

Like it or not, I'm just trying to help out. Reality served cold isn't always fun. I'm just teaching what I've been taught. Don't want people to butt their heads against walls that wind up collapsing on them. I'll do it my way, you do your way.

Shame you don't like my delivery, but it's hard to disagree with my points. I hope there's a place for all our lessons here. I think that's part of your point, isn't it?

Just my two cents...

Maybe it's just my silly sense of humour and no offence to any that didn't like the prank but I don't know how people didn't all find this as ****ing funny as ****. LOL

I loved the prack and I myself wish it had lasted longer (at least a full day) but as it lasted only two hours I can't see what harm it could have done.

Two ****ing hour?! It takes me two hours to ****ing **** my ****. LOL

In short, I thought it was hysterical but those who didn't are entitled to your opinions. 😀

just speaking for myself i got frustrated cuz i wanted to pm someone and i had no idea what was going on. thankfully i was able to pm Myriads and he told me it was a joke.

i'm not mad about it i just wish i knew what was going on so that i could have enjoyed it as much as others did. until kered's post about all the changes and such i really had no clue as to what had happened.

so for me i found being in the dark a bit frustrating but now i'd like to see it again so that i can look at everything to see what really took place.

no need for hard feelings on my part.:whip:

I am so happy that I missed the "ACF"/Chaos. If I would have been trying to log in to my TMF account and was not able I would have been pissed. I know that this was a "prank", but unlike BrightEyes 1082 saying people's lives should not revolve around the forum they don't revolve around the forum, but they revolve around their lives and families and when they can get on the forum. So yes this "prank" was a "massive inconvenience" too many. People understand that the forum needs to be down for routine maintenance, but when they come on and have not been warned that the forum is down they get a little bit mad because they can not do what they want. Some people also use the forum as a place to come for stress relief from their hectic lives. I appreciate the work the Mods and TMF staff do, but I think the "prank" was poor timing. I do not feel that shutting the forum down for a few people was an excellent idea.

You don't think that getting mad because you can't do what you want is a little selfish?

Again, if the TMF is so crucial to you that it being down was a "massive inconvenience," whether down for maintenance or a prank, you may want to reevaluate your priorities.

Now, I wouldn't have called it a "massive inconvenience", but hey, at least he's not calling it a "massive trauma". But if he came on with the intent of posting something interesting, PMing a friend, chatting with folks... I mean, heck, doing anything in the real world, too -- meeting friends, going to the supermarket, hitting the movies -- if you're stuck in traffic waiting for the pattern to change for two hours, yeah I can see it being "massively inconvenient"...

Everyone's got a different opinion to which they're entitled.

The inconvenience, be it "massive" or not, is over.

Folks, I love you all to death (you too, Aura), but maybe we could just worry about our own priorities without casting judgement on those of others.

So, I've never posted before. This whole ACF thing got me to want to post on here. I've been lurking for a long long time now, been here since '01 and saw the shemp tmf a few years ago. The mods and the TMF staff spent 364 days and 22 hours giving everyone a place to come and taking care of it. Answering e-mails,PM's and whatnot. They took two hours out of one day to goof around and poke fun at two of their friends.

I can totally understand people being slightly annoyed if they were in the middle of talking on a thread and then couldn't. This is a forum of a huge number of people (i believe the member list says 50,000+). Mods and Staff work very hard for us. I saw where MTP Jeff said they were thinking about trying to do this every year. If it bugs the bejeebers outta you that much. Plan on not doing anything you have to get too greatly involved in on that particular weekend.

Let's say you do make a plan not to get involved over that weekend, but somehow do. Well, the 8 o'clock show became sold out. Wait two hours and come back for the 10 o'clock show. When I came on and saw things all weird, I figured something was wrong. Until I saw things saying it was a prank. I let the 8 or 10 people goof around for 2 hours to relieve stress and have fun. Then came back. This little prank actually gave me a good chuckle when I really kinda needed it also. Thanks to the Mods and The Staff for all you do, and thanks for releasing some of your own stress as well as mine.

If you found it massively inconvenient, fine. But don't bitch and gripe like Jeff or the mods owe you something. I think vlad said it well.

There's a difference between something being an annoyance, and a massive inconvenience. Yes, people's definitions of the two will vary, but for the most part, the difference is clear.

...mmmmmmdunno who you're talkin' to, but I agree with you wholeheartedly! Let me echo that! Jeff and Mods owe no one anything. That was a large point of my first post here -- it's their baby to do with what they like. Gripe if you feel you need to (I think we've covered the censorship/conformism thing pretty well), but know it's not going to change anything. It's not your house. It's theirs. They offer you membership free of charge -- nice of 'em. They'll do what they like, and folks should be happy to take advantage of the benefits when they're offered.

Good post! :xpulcy:

It coulda been for 2 days. Now that woulda been amusin.

Yeah, I would've.

Apparently it took many hours to create and expell, almost every subforum had posts and responses.

I would have felt insulted if no one took the time to get as enjoyment out of reading it as I would have had creating it.

But, that's just me. 🙂
