I went and saw the Dark Knight this past Friday (July 25). and It took me very little time to realize I didn't care about any of the characters in this film. I don't know what it us, but Chris Bale sucks as the Bat, he may be the worst Batman I have ever seen. Does he really have to deepen his voice when he is talking to people who know he is bruce Wayne... is Wayne a method vigilante and once he's in his cowl he doesn't break character. When Keating was playing Batman he did a deep voice too, but with Bale it sounds so forced I almost laugh at him.

Two face (who was well played)was completely wasted. I had know problem with his origin being in this film, but I expected that he would be the bad guy in the 2nd film, but instead they decide to kill him, and now Batman is taking the blame for the 2 dirty cop he killed for their involvement in his girl friends death. Nobody cared about her death by the way... not one person reacted, nobody gave a shit about this chick... they didn't even hate her enough to cheer they just didn't care. That should tell you how important she was when pack theater doesn't react to the love interests death!

I actually considered leaving the theater when Wayne and Dent were sitting down for dinner with their dates. During the car chase I almost fell asleep, and I love a good car chase (the diesel scene was ripped right out of Empire Strikes Back and was the best part of it). The Joker was great, and really the only good thing about the film over all.

Your spelling/gramatical skills are giving Canada a bad name, lol. I think your summary of the film leaves you in the minority, however you are entitled to your opinion.

Hmmm, next time I do a post I will add "Please Don't Hold My Spelling Against My Country" lol. I've been in the minority before.

I did a quick once over with a spell check so I hope it is better.

thank you for the opinions, Slaver. luckily, they have not swayed me from eventually seeing the flick.

oh yes, and spl chkr plz.

You're going to tell me Christian Bale is worse than George Clooney as Batman? Come on now. Although the growly thing took some getting used to.

As for Two-Face, it's not really for sure that he's dead, despite some people wanting him to be.

You know, I thought that myself. I'm waiting for the explanation in the next movie to be that he fell and didn't die, he merely took a good fall. And while all police were supposed to "chase Batman", he made his getaway.

Christian Bale is not the worst but he is not the best

I dont think there is one movie he acts good in

About the only thing I agree with Slaver on is the growling voice, but I think Christian Bale does make for a good Bruce Wayne. I still think that Adam West made the best Batman. 😀 Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker was nothing short of incredible. Did NOT like the new Rachel Dawes. :xlime: I liked Katie Holmes much better. Gary Oldman's portrayal of Jim Gordon comes off a little too Wally Cox for my liking.

But that's all nitpicking. For me, it was a great movie with a great plot. I look forward to getting the DVD.

I preferred Maggie Gyllenhaal to Katie Holmes. Katie is not believable in the part, in my opinion. She might be cuter, but that's about it.

Um...okay. And since you posted your thoughts, I will respond with mine: I think your claims are completely off base, that the film was enthralling as a cinematic experience, it provided visceral sequences that actually enraptured my skeptical mind, and also that the psychology and motivations of the characters are complex and extremely entertaining to analyze.

Christian Bale is not the worst but he is not the best

I dont think there is one movie he acts good in

And I'd counter with a "I don't think there is one movie he has acted bad in".

I preferred Maggie Gyllenhaal to Katie Holmes. Katie is not believable in the part, in my opinion. She might be cuter, but that's about it.

For some reason, Maggie Gyllenhaal is infinitely more attractive to me than Katie Holmes. Maybe it has to do with the fact that Maggie seems more well versed as an actress and is just smarter than Holmes.

Or maybe Scientology.

I'm with you there. Have you seen "Secretary"?

I have not seen the movie yet. I will wait for the two disc dvd version with all the commentary..etc. I did see Batman Begins. I agree with Christian Bale's sad attempt to changing his voice. It does sound like he is hoarse and trying very hard to strain his voice, not very threatening at all. But at least he made an attempt unlike Clooney who sounded the same way as both as Bruce Wayne and Batman. I am glad they went back to the Dark Knight and not so much as the detective superhero. In the comics, Batman is not a superhero. He never was interested in saving the world as much as he was to taking down criminals on their level. Making the criminals the victims.

I was never a Katie Holmes fan. She still looks like she is fifteen. I had a hard time believing she was living in a adult world. I like the new actress as Racheal. She is more a believable woman. Cain and Freeman do an excellent job at playing Alfred and Lucious. I could never say anything bad about Gary Oldman though. He is a great character actor and changes faces and accents in every movie he is in. It makes it more believable to me when watching him on screen.

Keaton is still the best.

So far I still think Keaton was the best Batman. He played both Wayne and Batman masterfuly unlike Val who was good as Batman, and George who was a great Bruce Wayne. When I go to see a film I want to be drawn into that world for however long the film is, nothing about these people realy interested me, hell I fell asleep during a damn car chase. I didn't care that the girl friend died, and I always care when the girl friend dies. I was pissed off when Two Face "died" because he is an interesting twist on a villian. You won't have to worry about me shitting on the 3rd one because I won't be going to see it.

I think you are the only person on the planet that didn't like that movie. Perhaps you just prefer the old, less macabre version of Batman versus the newer, darker one.

I understand what you mean about the Rachel Dawes character (Maggie Gyllenhall.) I remember the scene where the joker 'crashes the party' looking for Dent and he antagonizes her and says something like, 'wow, you're really beauitful.' And my father sitting next to me turns ans says, 'No, she's not'.

There was no response when she was killed off either. But the movie was still fantastic, I'll probably see it again and most assuredly buy it on DVD.

And as far as Bale as Batman, he's not off the walls great, but solid, and I really can't think of anyone who would do much better.

Hey... I really like Maggie! 🙁 And she was awesome in "Secretary"... rawr! 😉

Have to agree. I think Maggie Gyllenhaal is really darn cute. I prefer her over Katie Holmes, anyway.

The first two batman movies were pretty dark and had serious undertones thanks to burton

Like Goodieluver said, the Keaton batman films were plenty dark, and Nicklson was a great Joker to his Batman. I've talked to some people, and even though I know I am in the minority, I am not alone in my disapointment. When the Joker was on camera it was great, Heath (is that spelled right?) did a great job. The Jerry Maquire moment between him and Bale in the GCPD interigation room was one of the highlights of the film. For over 2 hours their was pretty much no reaction from anyone in the theater except for when they were laughing at the Joker's anticts or Bale's lame efforts to gruff up his voice.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't like Bale as Batman! I think he is a great actor, But there is just something about him (that I haven't quite been able to pinpoint yet) that I don't care for when he plays batman.

I hear you, but it wasn't just her physical qualities I prefered. I found Katie to be more believable than Maggie on several levels. She seemed more believable as Bruce's long time friend. She seemed to care about him more. She seemed more believable as an Assistant DA. She carried herself more professionally. And she seemed way more believable as the woman desired by two of Gotham's most powerful men. Maggie seemed more sloppy, dour, and listless to me. In my opinion Katie is clearly the better actress and had way better overall stage presence. Perhaps I'm able to see this because I don't let her scientological proclivities sway me. 😉
