Some of you *must* be geniuses...

Hey, I said sorry, but I also wanted to see your reaction.

His cheating and breaking the law to boost his chances does not mean he is more intelligent, but it definitely means he is suited for real-world success, and any employer would jump at the chance to hire him.

James T. Kirk, of the U.S.S. Enterprise cheated on an exam...

He took a test that you were REQUIRED TO FAIL. But he cheated and passed it. Somehow, he altered the program.

Which makes him a badass.

Oh, and its also A nice way to become not only the coolest robot talking person on earth, but a starship captain.

Take THAT, Mr. "I invented the Internet!" (Al Gore)

Not sure I agree with the commission of a criminal act as suitability for real-world success argument...

I don't know...many companies have hired for security the very kids who had hacked into their computer systems because they obviously knew their stuff and knew about the holes in their security.

Well yes I happen to work for that type of "company" but regardless those situations are few and far between 😛

It doesn't mean he's not more intelligent either. Just because someone does something underhanded doesn't mean they did it because they lacked the ability to aqquire it under their own power. It could simply mean they were smart enough to take the easy way out.

Assuming he is not like this as a person, and he was just desperate, then I'd understand and you'd be completely right, because he will have doubted his own intelligence to get a good score. However, its not so clear cut a conclusion anyway. Since even if he doubted himself he may very well have been smarter than he thought and would get a good score and cheating would not have been necessary.

The fact he did cheat the system only proves his impatience or disdain for the process, not his inability.

It's just as likely that he's a genius who knows he would have recieved an exceptional score, but he also loves the thrill of cheating and forcing his will.

This ties into what Ness has just said, about the government hiring these types of people into legitimate business ventures.

It is my understanding that the majority of hackers do so for nothing more than the challenge and for the right to say (albiet anonymously) "Hey, look what I did!", not to cause any actual harm.

That's true Ness. And originally, Viruses were created just to spread themselves through systems, and not to cause actual harm. THey were there so teh creater could go "look, my virus is on X many computers".

Yes Ma'am. *Walks over to Betchass kneels forward on bended knee, places sword upon the earth.* I am sorry Betchass. I was a child for doing such a thing. Will you ever forgive me?

I know. I was under the impression we were not focusing on the majority of anything in this discussion.

Y'know, I may not have any actual power here, but being sarcastic to Missy Val doesn't fly in my book.

Try to be a stand-up type person, please?

That's what I've heard. I also think the majority of big businesses actively seek out unscrupulous types. At least for serious employees. For patsies they probably want more innocent people. So you could win by playing fair; but anything to improve your odds.
I guess the real successful types would be the ones who buy an expensive dinner and hooker for the test-givers the night before the test.
