Sooo nipple piercings

My husband had his done, and he's thinking about doing it again. He said if anything it was more sensitive afterward.

I just want to know who the hell had the first notion to combine a big sharp pointy object and a nipple and stab the hell out of it and then stick other sharp pointy things to dangle from it or sit in the hole in order to be attractive?

...

I'da just put on a hat, personally.

HISTORY OF NIPPLE PIERCING

Roman Centurions wore leather armour breast plates which were shaped to fit the body and rings were sometimes placed in these breastplates where the nipples appeared to be, the rings were used to hang a cape from. This has led to the belief by some people that the actual nipples were pierced to hang a cape from, but anybody who has had their nipples pierced would tell you that this would be a very uncomfortable practice.

"In the middle of the 14th century...Many women suddenly wore 'such low necklines that you could see nearly half their breasts', and among the upper classes in the same century, Queen Isabella of Bavaria introduced the 'Garments of the grand neckline', where the dress was open to the navel. This fashion eventually led to the application of rouge to freely displayed nipples, those 'little apples of paradise' and to placing diamond studded rings or small caps on them, even to piercing them and passing gold chains through them decorated with diamonds" "Dreamtime" Hans Peter Duerr

In the late 1890s the 'Bosom Ring', came into fashion briefly, and sold in expensive Parisian jewellery shops. These 'Anneux De Sein' were inserted through the nipple, and some women wore on either side linked with a delicate chain. The rings enlarged the nipples and kept them in a state of constant excitation...the medical community was outraged by these cosmetic procedures, for they represented a rejection of traditional conceptions of the purpose of a woman's body." "Anatomy & Destiny" Stephen Kern

"For a long time I could not understand why I should consent to such a painful operation without sufficient reason. I soon, however came to the conclusion that many ladies are ready to bear the passing pain for the sake of love. I found that the breasts of those who wore rings were incomparably rounder and fuller developed than those who did not. My doubts were now at an end...so I had my nipples pierced, and when the wounds were healed, I had rings inserted...with regard to the experience of wearing these rings, I can only say that they are not in the least uncomfortable or painful. On the contrary, the slight rubbing and slipping of the rings causes in me an extremely titillating feeling, and all my colleagues I have spoken to on this subject have confirmed my opinion." London socialite writing in "Vogue" 1890

Nipple piercing was once practised by the Karankawa indians of Texas adn is still practised in the Mountains of Algeria, by women of the nomadic Kabyle tribe. In the west nipple piercing has made a resurgence, with many famous people having their nipples pierced ie. Lenny Kravitz, Jaye Davidson (The Crying Game), Gerry Connelly (Comedian), Tommy Lee (Drummer Motley Crue- Husband of Pamela Stephenson Baywatch) and Axl Rose (Guns & Roses).

For the first paragraph - WTF OW
For the second paragraph - minus the piercing part at the end... why oh why did this type of dress have to go out of style? =D

No, you're right Mistress, it hasn't changed here in US.
Another reason for that law is that alcohol is a blood thinner=a lot more blood than when your system is clean. Aspirin too.
XOXO

Not to put a damper on the enthusiasm and interest in exploration, but from my own experiences:

1.) Unless the U.S. laws are changing, most piercing/tat places won't do anything if you tell them you took any pre-meds or they can smell you've been drinking. Opens them up to all kinds of lawsuits if they do, because even the release form is null if it's signed while you're under the influence and you come back at them with "buyer's remorse" b/c of what you inked or poked. Again, don't know if that's changed now since I had anything done but it would suck to get yourself prepped and have them pull the plug on the operation at the last second.

2.) As long as you don't mind the pain, you'll be okay, because yah. It hurts. In fact, you'll have quite awhile afterward to continue experiencing it. 😉 😀 Doesn't kill any sensitivity that I ever noticed (I have a lot of that), but for about two weeks afterward, I felt like I had a couple of very angry squirrels clamped on really, really tight. :munch: Wearing a very tight sports bra helped some, but forget about sleeping on the stomach and God forbid you accidentally clip the edge of something when you walk past it. Or the pet jumps up on you--talk about the automatic 30-meter pet kick! And then there's the "dried-bodily-fluid-on-the-ring/bar" phenomenon, which is a nifty way to get an unexpected yet solid, hearty scream out of yourself...when you clean the piercings, you wash and betadine them, then rotate the rings back and forth through the piercings. If there is so much as a speck of dried anything on it, it literally feels like you're running broken glass through the opening and voila'! Instant high-C soprano!

1. I was drinking during all of my tattoo sessions. I guess it really depends on the establishment and if they fear said lawsuit.

2. You should have seen my friend's pale ass face when he had his nipples pierced!! It definitely deterred me from getting it done. My nostril and my eyebrow on the other hand was a piece of cake.

Maybe it's a state thing. All of my tats and piercing were done in Cali.
We had a "get a tat, save the ta-tas" pink ribbon event a couple months back to raise money for a friend who needs a partial mastectomy. It was about 100 degrees out, I hadn't drank that day but I did the night before. I'm glad I didn't wear a shirt that I loved. I looked like I'd been in a slasher movie by the time I got home.
XOXO

What a great cause!

I never wear a shirt to the tattoo shop; however, I do bring a towel or two.

Thanks~I loved the idea the minute they asked me to take part. It is HUGE (I'm only 5'3") and people always stop me and ask about it, or share their own stories with me. One guy actually got off the elevator in my hospital so he could get a closer look!
(and somehow I doubt I could get away with coming to the shop without my "shirt" on.):neenerneener:
