I'm currently exploring the likelihood that all the health issues I've been dealing with for the better part of my life are actually lupus. Since I've been so limitted by it the last few months, it's pushed me to explore further and things seem to fit. If anyone has it and would be willing to share (here or via PM), I'd be interested to hear your story...and willing to lend some moral support.

We do not, and do not know of anyone, but we hope you feel better, and offer you a shoulder (well both of ours) to lean on. Cyn is a fantastic and sympathetic listener, and always willing if ya need. Best to you

Thanks, guys! I'm actually good in that department. I'm more interested in others experiences of figuring out the diagnosis. But, it's much appreciated.

My grandma had it and I think they gave her gold chloride shots for it. Course they probably got better stuff now. Anyway my grandma lived to be 94 so if you do have it dont give up. :twohugs:

I was tested for it at one point. The first test they did on me was blood work to check my level from there i was sent to see a genetics counsler. Turned out I didn't have that but something more rare lucky me. I do have a cousin who's wife has it they now just added there 3 child to family. Its is a managable condition once diagnosed and treated properly.

Thanks for the responses. I actually have the mother of a high school friend and two relatives who have it. So, I'm familiar with things enough to know that it's not a death sentence or anything like that...provided one is vigilent and takes care of themself. My aunt (who's 93) actually just got out of the hospital again after another bout of pneumonia from hers.

It's funny. With all the researching I've done online, most of those who've shared their story are devastated when they learn that they have it. I'm not. I'm relieved to think we finally figured out what the hell's been going on all these years. Everything makes sense now. It's easier to fight the enemy you can see.

I actually contacted a holistic doc (in SC) who's willing to advise me and consult with whatever local guy I find who's worth working with. He feels that most of the issues surrounding lupus are able to be controled by dietary changes. Normally, I'd be a bit skeptical. But, this guy is responsible for my nephew still being with us in spite of years of seizures and other complications from CP. So, I know he's no quack. I start the diet he recommended today. If it seems to help, I'll go from there.

I appreciate the notes I'm getting. But, I should be clear that this isn't something I'm upset about. I've apparently been dealing with it for years. It's just got a name now...and a promising treatment plan that won't break the bank or cause even more symptoms with reactions to the meds normally prescribed. So, I'm feeling good about it...especially given the possibility of controlling things enough that I might be able to eventually go back to work!

the diet you speak of, is it more an issue of omitting certain foods? Good luck Ann, I know with your spirit you can tackle anything.

Thanks, Judy! Yes. Initially, it's eliminating things...primarily wheat, dairy and sugar. The doc who developed this feels (in short) that the root of lupus and many other auto-immune disorders is in digestion issues leading to the body attacking itself. Then, once the system has had a chance to rest, there are a few options, including enzymes and supplements to aid the system in processing things if needed. After an initial cleansing/healing period, some patients can even go back to having limitted amounts of things that were a poison to their system before. This guy has led my sister-in-law through years of very specialized diet for my nephew and is responsible for him still being alive today. So, I know I can trust him. I'm actually kinda psyched to see how much good it does me. It would be nice if it controls things to the point where I can go back to work...even if only part time.
