The Denver Defense was just too much. It would have been over sooner if not for the ineffectiveness of Denvers Offense for most of the game.

But you gotta be happy for Peyton Manning. Not many guys in sports get to go out on top.

As for the Panthers, they'll be back. I don't think they're a fluke. Cam Newton had a great year, and he's only gonna get better.

Last 3 Superbowl Matchups of #1 Offense vs #1 Defense:

Superbowl 37 Buccaneers{Defense} 48, Raiders{Offense} 21

Superbowl 48 Seahawks{Defense} 43, Broncos{Offense} 8

Superbowl 50 Broncos{Defense} 24, Panthers{Offense} 10

And each winning Team had at least 1 Defensive TD

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS

That Raider one still hurts! But little said, baseball and football have two underlying truths. Offense wins games but in baseball pitching wins championships and in football defense wins championships.

I was kind of disappointed by this years Super Bowl. As a neutral fan for the game, it was just kind of blah to me. I was hoping that Carolina would pull it out, but I'm happy for Peyton. Although I'm not a fan of the Broncos (probably why I was rooting for Carolina, or that I am a Chiefs fan).

I was more or less neutral too. But a few odd things I noted from Carolina was (1) I never saw Cam Newton smile. Ever. Not because he had little to smile about, but I mean even before the game started. He also seemed to be in some sort of physical discomfort from the very beginning. Looked like he was stretching and trying to work out some kind of muscle problem somewhere. (2) Hardly heard the name Greg Olsen the entire game. You don't watch a Panthers game and not hear the name Greg Olsen.

Also seemed to me Denver was getting a lot of calls (or you might say non-calls) in their favor. It wasn't the quantity of calls, it was the timing of the calls. The now infamous "non-catch" that would have resulted in a Carolina first down instead turned into a 3rd and long which resulted in a Denver defensive touchdown. Also a Denver offsides during a crucial field goal attempt that wasn't called resulted in a missed field goal for Carolina, which would have made it a one score game at that point. There were also some defensive pass interference calls against Denver that were ignored by the officials, yet made obvious by announcers.

The past two Superbowls especially have left a bad taste for me. The game has become so corrupt and political it really isn't much fun to watch anymore. Anyone who watches NFL knows Seattle lost to the Pats in Superbowl 49 because someone 'upstairs' with a lot of clout told Pete Carroll not to give the ball to Lynch. This was penalty for Lynch acting like a total A-hole on press day and embarrassing not only the Seahawks organization but the NFL in general in front of a world-wide audience. There's no way they were going to hand him a MVP trophy and back-to-back Superbowls for acting like a 5 year old. But again, anyone who watches NFL knows when you have only one yard to get and two time outs left - you give it to the (at that time) best back in the NFL. No coach in the NFL is that much of a bone-head to not know that.

I won't even go into the whole deflate-gate nonsense. It just further proves my point of the game being so corrupt these days.

All in all Superbowl 50 was a sloppy game by both teams and the officials. As another post noted, a very 'blah' game. In the end Manning got his retirement trophy and all that matters at this point. So until next season..

I would say the baseball truth applies unless you are the Dodgers. Last season they had the two best pitchers in baseball and still couldn't even get to the series. Then again, this the Dodgers we are talking about so nothing new there.

The Panthers gave it their all and I admire them for that (even if it ultimately couldn't best the Bronco's defense).

A big HIP HIP HURRA for both teams for entertaining us so much during a beloved Sunday night. 😀
