Ok.. general (tickling) knowledge time....

Me being me, I get into a lot of tickle fights with friends of mine, whether just hanging around, or in a pub, or, well you get the point. I have a tendency to win, or at least escape, even if outnumbered (which is usual, as its pretty attention getting seeing a grown man squeak) - though not always - as Im pretty quick, and have excellent hand/eye co-ordination. Hey, I rock.

But... Went swimming today, and got messing around the same as usual, only to find out that of the 3 people I was "fighting" with, 2 of them suddenly became non-ticklish underwater, while the other became far less ticklish, although she still reacted.

Myself on the other hand, stayed just as bad as ever. The various ticklefights that ensued were short, and the results were fairly predictable. Something about taking the opportunity, I think.

I'd never noticed this before? Is it usual? Am I UNusual for not having this dampening (heh) effect?

Several quotes come to mind, Stevey:

Life turns in a circle.
What goes around comes around.
Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you.

Luckily, it looks like this particular change is gonna be fun for you! Hang in there dude, but don't "hang ten" unless you want 'em tickled! LOL 😉

Sole Seeker ,don't worry !🙂..I like you am extremely ticklish almost everywhere on my body Every day of the week, every hour ,minute, second 😀 ..I would jump in the pool right along with you and you would be getting tickled  and you could tickle me to your hearts content whether in the water,or out in the shade sipping a glass of iced tea, whatever 😉 .My pet peeve is meeting people that aren;t the least bit ticklish and they tickle me but I can;t make them laugh unless I tell them a joke :sowrong: .So Sole Seeker,it would be great to meet you sometime 😀

I'm actually less ticklish on surfaces under water as well. For me, I suspect it has something to do with the fact that I'm MUCH more ticklish with a very light tough. Firmer touches just don't do much. Since it's more difficult to do a light touch underwater, I suspect this may be a part of the reason.

It's interesting that I stumbled upon your thread lol, I actually had posted something similar to this as well. Since I was curious to know if people were ticklish under water for at that time I had never had that done to me lol. But I don't know about some, but I recently discovered that I AM very ticklish in water as well as out.

It was a great experience for me and the sensation I believe was heightened a little, but everyone is different when it comes to that I guess.

From experience and scientific knowledge it's all to do with the way in which you're ticklish. Light tickling doesn't work well underwater because of the dampening affect of water (due to it's density and compressibility compared to air), however, heavy tickling is more skin-to-skin contact, and the forces the ler is using are strong enough to overcome the dampening affect of the water - although it won't be quite as hard as usual because of movement changes.

I'm with totally_evil on this one, but there's an additional dimension. You know how your skin prunes up on your hands and feet when they've been underwater a bit? I find that ticklishness of the feet all but goes out the window when that happens as well.

yeah but there's more to life than tickling feet 😛... what about the rest of the body? lol

I haven't really tickled people while swimming, but I have atleast two friends that have told me that when they're underwater or just get out they're not ticklish... I think like most things, just depends on the person.. like the orriginal poster from soo many years ago said, he is still extremely ticklish but his friends aren't... I think it probably has to do with how the water affects your body. But I'm not some scientest.. so I dunno..

Well, the rest of the body doesn't prune up that much, so... :ermm:
