I think this whole gay bashing thing that some Americans are engaging in is getting scary.....:

Tenn. County Wants to Charge Homosexuals

DAYTON, Tenn. (AP) - The county that was the site of the Scopes ``Monkey Trial'' over the teaching of evolution is asking lawmakers to amend state law so the county can charge homosexuals with crimes against nature.

The Rhea County commissioners approved the request 8-0 Tuesday.

Commissioner J.C. Fugate, who introduced the measure, also asked the county attorney to find a way to enact an ordinance banning homosexuals from living in the county.

``We need to keep them out of here,'' Fugate said.

The vote was denounced by Matt Nevels, president of the Chattanooga chapter of Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.

``That is the most farfetched idea put forth by any kind of public official,'' Nevels said. ``I'm outraged.''

Last year, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Texas' sodomy laws as a violation of adults' privacy.

Rhea County is one of the most conservative counties in Tennessee. It holds an annual festival commemorating the 1925 trial at which John T. Scopes was convicted of teaching evolution. The verdict was thrown out on a technicality. The trial became the subject of the play and movie ``Inherit the Wind.''

In 2002, a federal judge ruled unconstitutional the teaching of a Bible class in the public schools.

OMG that is total and utter BULLSHIT!!

This certainly disproves the theory of evolution. Monkeys are more civilized. :sowrong: :sowrong: :sowrong:

I just love it when people are quoted as saying "I'm outraged!" As if his personal feelings mean squat to anybody. The issue is not his bruised sensibilities, but rather the legality and tenibility of the commissioner's proposal, which to me are sadly lacking. The translation of this petulant outburst would be, "Hey, I'm outraged, so you guys better do something about it, because I'm a pretty important guy in this town, and I NEED TO BE APPEASED!!!" He could have maintained a more professional detachment by saying, "It's outrageous," a statement with which I would tend to agree. But instead, he elected for the drama. What a douchebag.

I don't know Drew, I agree that getting emotionally involved with an issue like this is not advisable, but I'd say the real douchebags are the ones who come up with this legislation in the first place. Then again, this is Tennessee were talking about. I know my own state has plenty of problems, but man... With the exception of the larger cities like Memphis, Knoxville, and Nashville, Tennessee is a shithole. It's no wonder this kind of ignorance would be prevalent there.

When someone is different, people fear. When someone desires something apart from the accepted norm, people fear. Sadly, some people take those fears a wee bit too far.

I don't really have anything to say about this...words can't do it justice. :sowrong:

Boy, the guys behind this sure dodged a bullet when that law to charge idiots with committing crimes against COMMON FUCKING SENSE was shot down :sowrong:

Yeah, the commissioner is the greater douchebag of the two. I didn't go into that because I knew that's what everybody else would focus on. I've never been to Tennessee, so I can't really comment on the pros and cons of it.

People have a right not to allow people or things that would affect their town. If they do not want it, they have a right not to allow it to happen. If you have a normal town, with normal people, normal kids, you do not want an element that would be disruptive to normal thinking😀 My 2 cents, returnable if not satisfied😀

but what is normal anyway??? who is supposed to judge what is normal and what isn't?? i mean for some people (and i don't get it but that's me) screwing a chicken is normal...or sleeping with multiple men/women at the same time is normal...who are we to determine what is normal??

if my town leaders were to decide that they wanted a “normal“ town, whose job it would be to tell my boys that the uncle they adore can no longer live in the same town as them?

and if one of my sons tells me that he is gay before he turns 18, will I be legal obligated to report it? will he have to move right away? or will he get to wait until his 18th birthday? can he visit?

what if someone tells them that I like to be tickled...? :wow:

Well, I'm sure down there, having sex with family members is considered normal.

Damn.. that was cold... lol... but yeah, Ayla brings up a great point; before you start discussing what "normal" is, think about how most people probably perceive our mutual interest. Tickling as a form of arousal is considered rather bizarre by a number of people.

I think the question should be: Do we really need a Dayton, Tennessee?

Cheers.😀

Dayton, Tennessee. The city with a million people and ten different surnames! Wow, neaderthals really do exist in modern society. That's why the KKK still exist in places like that.

To be honest, I'm not at all surprised that this type of mentality exists. People of strong beliefs, be they from the South or OTHER places, are entitled to an opinion. They are also entitled to present their views for debate. They are also entitled to the very rights they would deny another and in the process stared at as if they have 19 eyeballs.

Frankly, I know stories about a few people who are in the category of those who dislike homosexuals. They involve things like vaccuum cleaners and livestock. :wow: But of course, that's acceptable if the sheep, pig or goat is of the opposite sex. 🙄 I'm sure there are a few apartments in NYC full of critters that are more special than the average pet. 😛

Seriously though, in topics of what the government should or should not banter about, I've always been of the mindset that preferences are healthy and not worthy of government intervention. If you are attracted to another race, body shape, or gender, that's all well and fine. Keep your hands off the kids and keep things consentual and it's no one else's affair. Frankly, I really don't want to know! I'm also not gonna tell you what I do with that 100 ft length of yellow coated wire and the pink flamingo in my closet. *hehe* So, let's hope that what goes on in our bedrooms stay there. On a side note, this bothers me in the same fashion as "Gay-Day" parades. I'm happy you're confident in your lifestyle and gender of partner, but I don't want to have to explain to my toddler jsut yet what that is all about marching down the street. I wouldn't be so charmed about Bob and Sue running down the street singing the praises of heterosexual lifestyles either. Blah! There are more important ways to self-identify than by what you choose to fuck. I think those "real intelligent fellers" in TN might do well to think about that too!

I just wish folks would stay the hell out of everyone else's bedroom habits. Unless they come with the engraved invitations...and damn if those aren't expensive. 😛

Well this calls to mind the civil rights movement of the 60's. When blacks where not wanted. The gays may have to fight for their rights as well. I think everyone knows that I am against homosexuality. However I do not think that homosexuals should be oppressed. I mean good fucking god. (is it ok to say good fucking god?) This country was founded on EQUALITY that means everyone. Stupid idiots.

"Well, I'm sure down there, having sex with family members is considered normal."-Shem the Penman

I would like to say that this statement offends me. It is a steriotype against us in the south, and I resent it. I ask you,Shem and the other people of America, to treat your fellow Americans with respect please. This includes people from every race, region, and sexual preference.

Nina: meow [I would like to say that those people trying to ban homosexuals in Daytona are just gay. Wait.........never mind]

I don't know, ten or fifteen years ago, there was a flap over a county in Georgia that kept out Blacks. They claimed that they had a right not to allow people or things that affected their region. Of course, you're gonna tell me that THEY were WRONG, huh, Natural? And, how was it left to YOU to determine what's normal or abnormal? I mean, in my experience, no one's normal. Anyone who is really needs some kind of therapy.

Not only is this public official in Tennessee wrong, but he also has no leg to stand on legally. This has as much of a chance to pass muster as my playing point guard for the Lakers.

Drew, for once, has an interesting and funny point. I like that, HE'S outraged. Who died and made him king?

i'd stay the hell out of that town..

.. if i were queer.
if those county officals want to out law homosexuals from living in their county, lots a luck fellas! their engaged in an exercise in futility. it won't stand up to a court challenge ,and they know it. they are just making a political/social statement. the best advice for this situation is; laugh at them, then forget them. oh yeah, and stay out of that county if you are gay or can't keep your liberal mouth shut!

Christ...why can't people just be peaceful? Why must people always complicate matters? Why can't people just let people live the way they want to and be happy? Why must people judge others by their own personal morals...and even worse, think that everyone else should abide by their morals and beliefs, even idf it means living in misery. It's just pathetic. The people of this country are pathetic. Sometimes it's almost too much, but we can't let people like that bring us down. After all, if we did, then they would win.

This law has a chance of passing as America catching Bin Laden😛 Now thinking about it, this whole scene is crazy.

I dunno, Knox, maybe the Lakers do need a good point guard😛 lol

Natural, I'd say that your comparison is hopefully incorrect. We've actually gotten pretty close to catching Bin Laden, and I would suppose that he'll be "captured" shortly before this November.

But yeah, a law like this one would definitely be ruled unconstitutional on a national level. If this law passes in Tennessee, it will only be a matter of time before the Feds come in to dismantle it.

NT, I really don't think you carefully thought out this statement before you wrote it. This sets progress in this country back about 50-60 years.

Although I don't agree with the homosexual lifestyle, they have the right under to law to be who they are without discrimination.

If I'm correct, aren't you a man of color? What if this town re-instituted JIM CROW LAWS? People would be outraged at the blatant prejudice and disrespect of a group of people. Many people have died for this kind of crap to change. In this country, if we protect one group of individuals, we are obligated to be fair to others whether we like it or not.

yes, you're right, I am a man of color. Same as yours. However, my statement I made was from the town's side of view, not necessarily my own. And this situation is far different from racial ones. When towns tried to keep blacks and other minorities out, that was purely racial. This is different, They don't want gays in their town. Totally different circumstance. probably what we're dealing with here is a town with religious beliefs or principles they don't want violated. Simply put, they don't want gays in their town and will stop at nothing to make it a reality. Kis, I know some towns could even try to bring Jim Crow laws back, but I believe that we've come a long way from those days. We have a long way to go sure, before being equal, but we're making strides. I don't like gay people either, because to me that is wrong, (religious beliefs aside) but this wave of homosexuality is running rampant, and something has to be done. I hope this clears it up, if not, oh well, such is life😀
