Text messaging while driving

Know what? I was texting/driving this morning and thought of this thread and stopped.

Pretty cool man, pret.ty cool.

And good for YOU for posting it!! 😀

It also helps I saved a text from Crystal that says, "STOP TEXTING AND DRIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

She yells at me. :dropatear

Good for her!😛 If this thread makes anyone stop and think, and prevents an injury or a death, that would make me happy.🙂

Guilty as charged of this. However I have cut down on it since getting my iphone, its hard to use that touch keypad while driving

People can justify it all they want. Not having to look at the phone, cutting back, etc, but it only takes a split second of not paying attention for you to get into an accident. A kid runs into the street after a ball. You just so happen to look down at your phone. *boom* Splattered kid on your windshield. Parents bury their child. You live with guilt.

Over a god damn text message.

I'm sure the kids' parents in this totally hypothetical, but plausible, situation would love to hear your reasons behind why you decided texting was more important than driving.

I wouldn't be crying over the kid's spilled brains. He had it coming. My text message was more important to me at the time, obviously.

I don't need to pay attention to the road at all times.

My car is made of happy and rainbows.

Unfortunately, this is exactly what I think goes through some peoples heads.

I don't condone textig while driving because it IS dangerous. But let's say you are driving through a neighborhood going about 10-15 mph, and texting, even THAT is idiotic and the hitting the child is much more likely to occur in a neighborhood.

But if you are driving down a freeway or interstate going 60+ mph and looking at your phone, a car in front of you could be hitting their breaks, you could be swerving and not realize it or even some kind of animal could run into the road.

THAT is the kind of scenario I picture when I think about how dumb it is to text while driving. It's more dangerous to text while driving anywhere, but especially on the interstate. That's all I am saying. :happyhop:

my brother does this constantly, and i'm always bitching at him to stop. anything driving-related makes me nervous, though, as i have PTSD associated with driving. it might make me one of the most careful drivers in existence. definitely never tried texting while driving.

It takes a split second of any kind of distraction for something like that to happen. Be it text messaging, talking on the phone, changing the radio station, etc.

My brother had just for a second glanced down at his radio to change the station, and when he glanced back up a deer had jumped out in front of him. Boom, he got into an accident. Totaled his car. Thankfully he was wearing his seat-belt and he wasn't seriously injured.

Sure, but text messages is probably the most common distraction, especially young people that have bad judgment.

Nowadays, I'd say yes, because cell phones have become a part of everyday life and young people haven't learned what you should do with them while driving.

With each addition to our lives and our vehicles, we have something new to learn how to handle and how to incorporate safely into our lives.

There'll always be distractions. Right now, this is the most recent distraction added to our daily lives. Who knows what will be added in the next ten years?

All the more reason not to add yet another distraction when driving, especially one so completely unnecessary as texting or talking on a cell phone. At 55 mph your car covers around 80 feet per second. And you need around four seconds to recognize a hazard and stop, assuming ideal conditions.

I'm glad your brother was not seriously hurt.🙂

Illegal here in Cali, as is talking w/out a head set behind the wheel.
XOXO

If the moron behind the wheel of the car your in is texting, why not offer to text FOR the person? And, if said moron declines the offer, pull the damn thing out of his/her hands.

Some say it is WORSE than DRUNK DRIVING.

I just heard a story of a woman being killed and her friend seriously injured because they were hit by a driver who was trying to retrive her Text Messager off of the car floor.:facepalm2:
