We're still in production with this issue, but looking to wrap things up fairly soon. I'm not going to commit to a release date, because every time I think we're almost done, something comes up. But we're getting there!
As with our other issues, I wanted to share what we've been doing all these months, and give a couple of teaser pics to those that have been following the series.
The biggest needed areas of improvement, after issue 11 released, was the artwork in my opinion. It was a matter of us communicating to the art team how to get this to look right, and keep doing revisions until it was done right. That's what we got after your emails and postings here, and it's something that has improved in issue 12. The anatomy isn't as awkward in this issue. The laughing expressions have improved in #12, and we'll just keep working on them with every issue. The Veronica sequence in #11 didn't turn out like I wanted, so I wanted to avoid that again.
Dave2112 was a huge help in putting this issue together. I drafted the script, let him know the gist of what we're looking to do, and he's been a great inspiration in arriving at the final product.
I don't want to give away too much about the specifics of this issue, but I don't know that it's going to be a surprise to anyone.
The biggest story here is the different approach I'm taking with this issue. After writing the initial draft of the script, I went back and realized there was way too much going on for an 11 page book. Something had to get trimmed down, and there was nothing I wanted to cut.
So after talking with Dave about it to get his thoughts, I decided to break this particular story up into two parts. So issues 12 and 13 will be covering the same topic, but from a different point of view.
So what's that mean?
For those that have been following along since Issue 7, you may recall that the twins Yin and Yang absolutely hate, hate, hate Agent Succubus. She was supposed to be a prisoner of their crime lord boss, but Succubus (with her seductive powers) turned him into a spineless wimp in no time flat. This didn't sit right with the twins at all. And every time they attempted to get even with Succubus, she would just use her powers to protect herself from any harm.
So the twins concocted this plan (see Issue 11) to get Succubus to willingingly submit to them, in exchange for her friend's safety. And it worked! So issues 12 and 13 will be all about "The Deal with the Devil, Parts 1 and 2"
Here, I wanted to show the dichotomy in the twins' personalities. They are similar in some ways, but they approach tickling in two very different ways. Yin's special powers are her abilities to control ice. She's been labeled as the Ice Queen, and with good reason. She derives no pleasure at all from tickling. She uses it purely as a method of torture to her "playthings." She is cruel and full of malice towards the world as a whole. It is with Yin that we begin this story.
Yang, on the other hand, views tickling much different. She controls fire, and her personality is warm and sensual. She is much more into teasing, into eroticism, into personal enjoyment of the laughter with her captives. That will be explored in issue 13.
So with that in mind, here's some preview pics from production.
Here's a picture of Succubus after she realizes Yin's true horrific plan with her. This is a look at the initial sketches, the intermediate inking stage, then the final colors/lettering.
I gotta thank Dave2112 for this one. I told him the basic idea of the pinup and what I wanted to do, he really helped me out with the wording on this. It's Succubus showing a little bit of flair and attitude towards her most dangerous weapons. This is a before/after shot with the inks, then coloring.
This panel made me smile a bit. I don't want to go into too much of what's going on here, I'll just say it's tea time for the twins as they enjoy the live show.
Hopefully this issue will release soon. We're also working on some other projects concurrently, so we don't have these "two releases a year" thing going on. More on those projects later as they materialize. Ruthless #2 is in production, but has stalled horribly, as I'm sure you're well aware. It's now four months overdue, but we're still working on it. One page at a time 🙂 I was happy with how that story ended up, so anxious to release that issue, as well.
