The Avenger's Movie Cast, Assemble!

So, we've got Robert Downey Jr. back as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo will be playing Bruce Banner/The Hulk (the third actor in as many feature films), and Jeremy Renner ("The Assassination of Jesse James...", "The Hurt Locker") playing Hawkeye...

Also, naturally, Samuel L. Jackson, having made cameos in the recent Marvel pics, will reprise his role as Nick Fury, Scarlett Johansson is Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth will be playing Thor in both the 2011 release, and in The Avengers film, and Chris Evans (previously the "Human Torch" in the Fantastic Four movies) will be Captain America.

I'm not much one for comic flics with this many cast members (they usually become clusterf**ks), but I'll give it a chance with Joss Whedon helming.

Nope, not at all. Spider-Man will likely never be in a Marvel Studios film because the rights to Spider-Man on film are owned by another company.

I don't remember Spider-Man actually ever being a member of the Avengers during the years I followed the comic. Unless he joined them in later years? So I don't think it is much of a surprise that Spider-Man isn't a member of the Avengers in the movie.

Also, he isn't even that great.

I just don't like that they are using the same actor who played the Torch to play Captain America. I really don't think he has much acting ability at all and frankly was a bit annoying in the Fantastic Four movies. He's just not who I imagine as Captain America at all.

Yeah, I'm less than satisfied with him as Cap, but I never liked Captain America much anyway. I'm only seeing his movie because Hugo Weaving is Red Skull.

I just didn't think he did the character justice what so ever. And I don't think he can pull off the more serious and mature Captain America. I just don't see it at all. But I also agree with your point on being 2 characters in the same comic universe. They aren't bringing Beast in and I do believe he was one of the original Avengers team member. And how can they not have the Scarlet Witch?

I have some grave reservations about this myself. The movie is supposed to be based on the Captain America from the Ultimates universe... He's a hardened, badass WWII vet who grew up in the America of the 1930's and 1940's. Chris Evans just seems way too goofy to play him. Also, they're going to need one of those damn foam-rubber muscle suits, a la Superman Returns. I mean, unless they're planning on feeding Mr. Evans some serious steroids over the next year...

I would've gone with Sam Worthington, personally.

They're rebooting Fantastic Four, which is awesome because it solves that problem and the Fantastic Four movies were terrible. They need to hand X-Men, Fantastic Four, Blade, Spider-Man, and all the other Marvel properties to Marvel Studios, because none of those films have been done right, especially not the most recent entries into every single one of those series.
