The only stipulation to this thread is that it be about cereal. You can tell us your current favorite cereal, or perhaps your favorite cereal growing up. Anybody remember an old TV commercial for any particular cereal? Who's your most memorable cereal spokes-character? Do you prefer hot cereal to cold cereal? Ever personally know any cereal killers? :blaugh:

Pink Panther Flakes....they were basically "Frosted Flakes"....but Pink!

Quisp and Quake.....cool characters, good cereal..... always regretted not trying "Orange Quangeroos"

BooBerry......tasted good, but always made you feel like vomiting after eating a bowl.

Any cereal that had "Tooly Birds" as the free prize. I always opened my cereal boxes from the bottom to get the free prize.

Drew

Alright. Why not.
What is a cat's favourite breakfast cereal?
Mice Krispies.
:sowrong: O god he's destroyed the thread in 1 post.
Sorry.
And, er, this...Mostly about cereal
Not overly keen on cereal myself.
😎

Nutritionally, I like Honey Nut Cheerios.

Boo Berry and Frankenberry ROCK!!

By the way, since we're doing this thread, there was a monster cereal in the 70's that had a werewolf as a character. Anyone remember what it was called? I've been wondering for years.

Quisp & Quake were the favs! Occasionally I can find a box in MARCS (local OH discount store) where they put tons of nostalgic items in the store and you spend lots of money on things you don't need.

Cocoa Krispies would be next.
Loved all the Cocoa Puffs commercials of the 70s
Cocoa Pebbles had cool Flinstones commercials when I was a kid. No amounts of threats, money, or anything else could get me to put one spoonful of Fruity Pebbles, Boo Berry, or Frankenberry cereal into my mouth! I still don't know what that stuff tastes like.

About 8yrs ago, MARCS had Cocoa Frosted Flakes. Those got me and the kids through some lean and tough periods. Two bucks for a box of cereal and 1.50 for a gallon of milk and that was breakfast for a week!

I did like the Pink Panther flakes commercials, but hated the pink milk! :idontwann

I don't eat much cereal anymore-just had too much of it as a kid. But thanks for the memories......... :upsidedow

i don't eat cereal now, but as a kid i ate rice krispies. snap, crackle, pop. i used to choke on corn flakes..sighs. they got caught in my throat lol..

Oh, those Golden Grahams.

Yes, I remember Quisp and Quake! I loved those commercials they had. Meanwhile, there was another one back in those days. Quackers. A near naked couple sitting in a tree, next to a chimpanzee. The man goes, "Me, Tarzan. You Jane. Him-" and a duck's voice pops out and screams, "Quackers!"

You can't make this up.

When I was a kid in the 60s, sugar was a major selling point in cereal advertisement. Many cereals had the word "sugar" in their names. But somewhere around the early 80s, sugar became a four-letter word with the nationwide craze on health and nutrition. So the names of the cereals were changed. Sugar Frosted Flakes became Frosted Flakes. Sugar Pops became Corn Pops. Sugar Smacks became Honey Smacks, and Sugar Crisp became Golden Crisp. Yes, they took sugar out of the names but you can be sure they left it in the actual cereal! :blaugh:

Yes, Drew, I noticed that recently. Kellogg's included the suffix "Of Corn" to the label "Sugar Frosted Flakes", in smaller case lettering. Well, we knew that. Like they thought some people thought it was Sugar Frosted Flakes of sweet fennel Italian sausage

Well, for the really health minded, there's Kashi. I imagine there's a market out there that prefers their cereal to look and taste like pieces of styrofoam. Hey, it's a lot of money for boxes of packing peanuts, you're better off getting them at Staples anyway.

Grape nuts.
But why do they call them nuts? 😕
XOXO

Found a cool article about Quisp and Quake. The two characters were creations of the same team that created Rocky & Billwinkle.

Quisp & Quake- A quarreling pair of Quaker Oats cereal box mascots popular in the 1960s who had their own cereal but didn't want to share air time with one another. Quisp is a round-faced impish alien from the planet "Q" with pink skin, crossed-eyes, and a broad teasing grin. Quisp weighs 43 pounds and stands slightly under four feet tall. He traveled about using the spinning propeller that sprouts from the top of his head. Quisp's mission?: to market his "Quispy, quunchy, quazy energy cereal" to the people of earth. Unfortunately, Quisp had to share his TV commercial spots with a mighty subterranean-dwelling miner named Quake (voice of William Conrad). Consequently, Quake relentlessly chased Quisp to prevent him from plugging his extraterrestrial cereal ("the biggest selling cereal from Saturn to Alpha Centauri!"). The Quisp & Quake ad campaign was created in 1965 by the Compton Ad Agency. The Q&Q cartoon characters were created by Jay Ward and Bill Scott (of Rocky and Bullwinkle fame). In 1970 Quaker Oats held a contest to see who was the most popular of the two cereals. Quisp won and Quake retreated under ground never to be seen again. Shortly thereafter, a new orange-flavored cereal and its swashbuckling mascot Simon the Quangaroo (with cape, hat and the same bold chin as Quake) arrived on the seen to continue the feud over who had the best cereal. Quisp and Simon entered a cross-country race to decide the winner. The Quisp Cereal was discontinued by Quaker Oats in the 1970s but reintroduced for sale on the Internet and selected markets in 1999 for baby boomers who craved the saucer-shaped crunchy corn cereal of their youth.

Quisp

I found some damaged boxes at one of those stores that sells damaged items cheap. It was a great cereal I wish they sold it in Massachusetts.

I never eat breakfast and I have always hated cereal. The reason is that I am a slow eater. I like to enjoy the favor and taste of the food that I am eating. The problem with cereal is that it gets soggy. There is nothing more nasty than soggy food! With that in mind, the only cereal I was able to eat as a kid was cookie crisp, it didn't go soggy as quick. I ate other cereals, as I really had no choice. For breakfast that I enjoyed was toast with butter, or powdered doughnuts or eggs, ect. But cereal, not much of an enjoyment for your friendly neghborhood see-through guy.

Gotta agree with some1 on soggy cereal. I avoid that problem by eating my cereal dry. My favorites are Corn Flakes, Rice Chex and Corn Pops (formerly Sugar Pops). At one point there was Double Chex, which were awesome, but they discontinued those.
I also like the taste of Cap'n Crunch, though that's kinda brutal to eat dry so I don't bother anymore.

Kellogg's in the 60s

Kellogg's cereals. They were a major sponser of The Beverly Hillbillies much the way Welch'es Grape Juice was for The Flintstones. Jed Clampett would sometimes remark on how Jethro could "wolf down twenty boxes of Corn Flakes" in one sitting.

Kelloggs always made a point of mentioning their geographical location: Battle Creek, MI. Their slogan was "The Best to You Each Morning." The old jingle went "K - E - double L.....Oh double good - Kellogg's Best To you!"

Many of the Kellogg's cereals had established Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters. Here are some of spokes characters for Kellogg's that I remember

Sugar Stars - Huckleberry Hound
OK's - Yogi Bear
Sugar Smacks - Quickdraw McGraw
Raisin Bran - Pixie, Dixie & Mr Jinx

However, the most memorable for me was Snagglepuss representing Cocoa Krispies..."It tastes like a chocolate milkshake; only cuh-runchy!"

I loved how Cocoa Krispies turned the milk into chocolate milk.

I don't suppose crumbled oreos in a bowl and covered in milk is considered a cereal?
Sooooo... I'll just have to go with frosted mini-wheats.

Yum! Never did that with Oreos but definitely with Vanilla Wafers. Of course, VW's had a high sog factor, so it was better to pour in the milk first, then just a few wafers at a time.

You know, packaged cereals go way back. For example, Quaker Oats released "Mother's Oats" in 1893  Yeah, who knew?

In 1904, Post released a cereal called Elijah's Manna. However in 1908, due to pressure from fundamentalists, they changed it to Post Toasties.
