Blew off work to see "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo". I saw that Fincher was getting his ass kicked by Alvin and the Chipmunks, I wasn't waiting another week, in case it was pulled from the one theatre in my area that was running it. Read the book series and already own the Swedish "Millennium Trilogy" on DVD.
The film has a Trent Reznor Soundtrack and a freaky CGI Title sequence full of S&M imagery that will make people forget the Peter Cristopherson " Broken" videos. The score did help the movie. The movie itself... it was okay.
Now I love all of Fincher's movies, well "Benjamin Button" not so much. But I do own all the Special Edition DVD's that are put out of his films, Zodiac 7even, Alien 3, and I will buy this one too. Fincher has an attention to detail and an eye for design that is better than any one, outside of Ridley Scott . The film was good, lots of flash, lots of cash, and slicker than the miniseries which itself is only two years old and to me that is what's wrong with it. The movie itself wasn't necessary.
Noomi Rapace is Lisbeth Salander. She owns that role, and the second and third films really flesh out her character showing her motivation and give her more opportunities to hack and kick ass. A bisexual cyberpunk goddess. Rooney Mara is more Sheldon Cooper with tits. She does all the things that Rapace does but to me, not as convincingly.
Two examples. One is the subway mugging, in which Rooney Mara comes off like an anorexic ninja against one junkie while Rapace stands off a gang of thugs awesomely feral, savage and willing to go balls-to-the -wall against them.
Then there's the rape scene. Finchers' version is almost like it was being recut to a PG-13, as compared to Oplev's version. Europeans, for the most part, don't duck and don't flinch. There is no committee and no micro management. For the most part their movies don't suck.
I recommend it if you don't know anything about the movie, but I recommend the miniseries more.
Which brings me to the point of my post. So I'm watching the rape scene. Lisbeth is chained to the bed, she's screaming through a gag and the scum bag lawyer is pulling down her underwear and unwrapping a condom. My dates reacting to the actions on screen with a little discomfort. She turns to tell me, not very quietly
" You're not tying me up to do that to me!"
I lean over, furtively looking around to see if anyone had overheard and I tell her, " Well, that's not exactly what I had planned for us later." Implying a more consensual restraint, teasing caresses, kisses in folds, creases, curves and clefts. An opportunity to run my tongue all over her skin without being swatted, because, you know, " It tickles.". Fun.
She jerks her head away from where I'm stroking her hair, and now all of a sudden I'm the scum bag lawyer.
So I got nuthin'. Nuthin' meaning not the somethin'-somethin' I'd almost had her talked into before the movie.
Cock-blocked by Hollywood.
