Blew off work to see "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo". I saw that Fincher was getting his ass kicked by Alvin and the Chipmunks, I wasn't waiting another week, in case it was pulled from the one theatre in my area that was running it. Read the book series and already own the Swedish "Millennium Trilogy" on DVD.

The film has a Trent Reznor Soundtrack and a freaky CGI Title sequence full of S&M imagery that will make people forget the Peter Cristopherson " Broken" videos. The score did help the movie. The movie itself... it was okay.

Now I love all of Fincher's movies, well "Benjamin Button" not so much. But I do own all the Special Edition DVD's that are put out of his films, Zodiac 7even, Alien 3, and I will buy this one too. Fincher has an attention to detail and an eye for design that is better than any one, outside of Ridley Scott . The film was good, lots of flash, lots of cash, and slicker than the miniseries which itself is only two years old and to me that is what's wrong with it. The movie itself wasn't necessary.

Noomi Rapace is Lisbeth Salander. She owns that role, and the second and third films really flesh out her character showing her motivation and give her more opportunities to hack and kick ass. A bisexual cyberpunk goddess. Rooney Mara is more Sheldon Cooper with tits. She does all the things that Rapace does but to me, not as convincingly.

Two examples. One is the subway mugging, in which Rooney Mara comes off like an anorexic ninja against one junkie while Rapace stands off a gang of thugs awesomely feral, savage and willing to go balls-to-the -wall against them.

Then there's the rape scene. Finchers' version is almost like it was being recut to a PG-13, as compared to Oplev's version. Europeans, for the most part, don't duck and don't flinch. There is no committee and no micro management. For the most part their movies don't suck.
I recommend it if you don't know anything about the movie, but I recommend the miniseries more.

Which brings me to the point of my post. So I'm watching the rape scene. Lisbeth is chained to the bed, she's screaming through a gag and the scum bag lawyer is pulling down her underwear and unwrapping a condom. My dates reacting to the actions on screen with a little discomfort. She turns to tell me, not very quietly

" You're not tying me up to do that to me!"

I lean over, furtively looking around to see if anyone had overheard and I tell her, " Well, that's not exactly what I had planned for us later." Implying a more consensual restraint, teasing caresses, kisses in folds, creases, curves and clefts. An opportunity to run my tongue all over her skin without being swatted, because, you know, " It tickles.". Fun.

She jerks her head away from where I'm stroking her hair, and now all of a sudden I'm the scum bag lawyer.

So I got nuthin'. Nuthin' meaning not the somethin'-somethin' I'd almost had her talked into before the movie.

Cock-blocked by Hollywood.

I know you didn't bring it up, but in context with that scene you probably should have tried to drop the subject and bring it up again later. Sorry it didn't work out for you, that bites. Better luck in the future.

If you get the chance to open the dialogue again and she brings up that scene, just completely agree that it's terrible and you would never do something like that. Leave out what you do until later. Her mind won't link the two together as easily perhaps. Sorry man. 🙁

Not exactly a date movie. ESPECIALLY if the subject of bondage was brought up beforehand.

Yeah, I suspect that lots of people are going to buy this DVD for reasons that have nothing to do with the rich storytelling.

First off, I thought the graphic anal rape of a woman coerced into it so as to be able to afford food was plenty unflinching. I'm turned on by the occasional simulated noncon and even knowing they were actors playing parts I was troubled by that scene. I was sufficiently disquieted by the coerced oral in his office. That was deeply disturbing to me. And I applauded when she tazed him.

But more to the point: "NEW YEAR'S EVE." "We Bought a Zoo," hell even "Sherlock Holmes" are DATE MOVIES, where the girls cuddle up with you afterwards cooing and giggling. "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" is dark, seething rage the likes of which could put even a committed tie-me-up/tie-me-down/tickle-my-ass-with-an-ostrich-feather bondage FREAK off their feed for a couple of days.

Hell, one enduring character theme is bondage enthusiasts -- you know, with our gas chambers and our fat grossness and our secret fet dungeons with rape harnesses and woman-cages -- are violent, murderous and abusive assholes who you must flee and taze because we're rapists and probably Nazis as well. We're certainly creepy and not to be trusted.

That's what I got from the film. Beyond the observation that Daniel Craig just keeps ending up in these situations. Like in "Casino Royale" where his balls itched. Eep.

Beyond that, I freely admit I'm a philistine. I didn't see the original, but I thought the film was fine, told the story it was telling with some eyegrabbing visuals, piquant story elements like bondage and neo-Nazis ... otherwise a classic, enjoyable murder mystery a la Agatha Christie.

But yeah ... not exactly a date film. Unless you're dating Dark Willow, Mistress of Pain.

Yeeeah...not dissing your choice of movie without knowing more about the situation but in general, at least with me, if I brought a girl to see that film or anything of the like I'd go in knowing there'd be no sex that night.

I imagine if I brought out some rope later the same night with teh grinz all over my face I'd get that grin slapped off real quick.

If it's any consolation, your story, your lack of foresight and your comedic bad timing amused me!

Some people have a hard time distinguishing between reality and fantasy, let alone recognize when they're making faulty associations.

I saw one version actually titled Men Who Hate Women and couldn't stop rolling my eyes at the gratuitous violence. Just the hubris of our times I guess.

Thanks to everyone for your responses to my first post that did not involve my incompetence with posting pictures.

It appears that I came off to all of you, like Travis Bickle on a date. Actually it was meant more tongue and cheek. I think the exchange between us was more about the state of our relationship than any act consensual or otherwise. We do things, we just don't do everything. I've broached it, she rebuffs and that's it. I'm not pushy. For the record, I am professionally certified in the use of restraints, but have had damn few occassions to use them in situations outside DOC guidelines. She knows this, she " just ain't liking it !"

She's a friend of a friend. I was fixed up when he found that I was going to movies alone. I don't go to bars, and when everyone else is partying, I'm filling in for them. No pity, I am well paid, and up until the last three months, glad to feel needed. I live in a rural area in which I know hardly anyone. I commute 75 miles to a job that I've been living at for the better part of ten years and I will be leaving at the end of this one. I refuse to date at work. She's a Divorcee with a child, still some residual anger though there are two sides to her break up. I'm a night out, I pay. I am attentive, groomed and I did'nt forget her birthday. We alternate picks, " Dragon" was mine and she saw the trailer, knew the outlines of the plot.

No, it was more about the subject of my leaving. We connected but did not spark. She is attractive and younger. She has commented on how much I work, not seeing it as what I now realize is more about avoiding life than anything else. She hugged me when I told her I was leaving. After awhile she also realized that I'd probably be leaving her too. Unspoken. I've been noncommittal, more friend than boyfriend, but I've been a novelty to her, I'm not local and I am a gentleman. I could probably get past the sexual disconnect, but I am afraid that she might try to use it to draw me in and then withhold it after commiting to her. I don't think any capitulation would be sincere. She knows I took a friends death hard, she does'nt know about my writing, which has as much to do with my decision as anything. Also, as I said, she's attractive, just not so much to me. Medium build, nice legs but a tendancy to grab hold of a minor disagreement and worry it like a bone. I like my women thicker, demeanor sweeter. A full armful of life and warmth, laughter as I caress all those places. A comfort that once established, would become our center. Vanilla with a hint of that spice with no name but a taste that burns your tongue when you touch her. Submisive to point and combative in interaction and disagreement, resolution by love which is always the sweetest. I've met two, now three, but in the last met is more about semantics than physicality. I am writing about the first, my first. The one I hold as the ideal and the lost opportunity. I'll post later in the month. Writing about the past though sometimes becomes more about picking scabs. It did not end well. I did not come out well. It haunts me.

I joined this forum because we are, with varying degrees, appreciative of a particular kind of kink, and I like to inteact. I've been out of practice. Thank you all for the opportunity to post and I really appreciate the interaction.

Dark Willow, Mistriss of Pain. Stockytickler, you got an Email for that?

Unlucky dude! If that was me I'd be pretty gutted....but then I wouldn't have taken a date to see that film. Possibly because of predicting that sort of reaction to the particular scene, but mainly because I'm insisting I read the books first.

Having seen both versions of the film, Swedish and American, I agree with you that Noomi Rapace gave a much better performance as Lisbeth Salander than did Rooney Mara. I did enjoy the American version of the film anyway and I hope they go on to make the second and third books into films as well.

Taking a date to see this film was unwise. You knew there would be a brutal anal rape scene in it. This is not conducive to a pleasant romantic interlude after the film.

Rule of thumb: Daniel Craig will not get you laid. 60-40 odds he'll be beaten or tortured, and his face looks like a broken ashtray.

I saw the movie and the best part was after the rape scene, she tied up the fat bastard, kicked the huge skin ripping butt plug up his ass then did the tattoo on his chest. Priceless.

Not for nothing.....I recently saw "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and as you had clearly stated, your date watched the rape scene in discomfort. I was purely disturbed by that scene, and if the person I saw it with whispered that in my ear, I'm sure I would have had a similar reaction, simply because that is not good timing. That probably would have been a good statement perhaps if you went to see "Chipwrecked" 🙂. Movies can certainly evoke emotions, especially those with such vivid scenes such as that. So just keep that in mind for next time. You can never go wrong with a comedy lol

Marquis: SO DID I!!! 😀 I was the only one in the theater to do so and I couldn't think why. I'd just so wanted her to DO THAT! 😀

Seriously?? The only one? Damn. It was an epic moment and something that should happen all people his character is based on. In fact, scum of his type in the real world need to have it branded on their foreheads.

Yup.
