It is very easy to take care of a pet turtle. They will eat vegetable waste (such as carrot tops or the remains of your salad when you're done with it). They can't climb over even a low fence and (except for snapping turtles) usually aren't dangerous even around children.

Very true.
Another good thing about turtles is that they don't make much noise. Anybody plagued by an incessantly barking dog would appreciate that.

Have to pass the turtle on to like two other generations lolThat is something to envy about turtles.
It amazes me how some people have 2, 3, 4 or more dogs. I can barely take care of 1. Between feeding him, taking him on daily walks (sometimes multiple), playing with him at home, vet visits, etc. it's like having half a kid I think. Plus the Boston Terriers I've had all didn't want another dog in the home. When my brother's dog visits Damian gets jealous and tries to boss him around (even though he's not as big as my brother's dog).
