But when we moved, my mother insisted that the fish not move with us. She claimed that the fish tank smelled, but I never noticed any smell. My father gave the whole set up, tank with fish with air machine with cover, to another fish collector in the Bronx.

Awww that's sad. Too bad you couldn't have kept the little guys.
 
Yes, too bad. I could spend an hour just watching the colorful tropical fish swim around the big tank.

Very beautiful indeed, but they need to be fed every day, the water needs to be aerated, and the tank needs to be cleaned regularly. I'm not willing to do all that, especially the daily feeding is a problem if you go away for a week.

Yes there is a lot of up keep. Why I never got into it either.

It is a good point that you should know about which fish are compatible to be kept in the same tank without losing some because they eat each other. 😱

There was a Animal Planet channel show called Tanked that was all about fishes and tanks. Learned a lot from that show.
