Don't Believe Everything You See - Buddha.

Or maybe that was Morpheus, or Keanu Reeves. I dunno. Whatev.

Anyways, for anyone who thinks everyone in Hollyweird is all flawless perfect beautiful blah blah and has issues because of it, here ya go.

All jokes aside, this is pretty cool, and important:

I always knew they re-touched pictures, but never really saw the process like that before. Those videos were great.

And: LMFAO @ your tag. 😀

We learned all about this in my Digital Design class at CCAD.
There is this one website where you just scroll over images of photoshopped people
and see the differences. It was so bad. It was like looking at two totally different people.
I wish I could remember the website.

I have a few sample websites to add to this beginning list.

http://eric.net.au/?p=31

Just as the directions dictate in the site above, mouse over the image after it loads so you can take a gander at the original.

http://eric.net.au/?p=29

Same instructions as above. Mouse over to see the work.

http://www.briandilg.com/imaging/

There above is a portfolio of someone who does it more for a living and is showing off tricky things he's done. Have fun checking out some of the ridiculous things he can do with photos. And I MEAN ridiculous.

http://homepage.mac.com/gapodaca/digital/bikini/bikini1.html

Same instructions as above. This man tends to deal more with people/women than the person above. More sample photos on the right to click through and view.

http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/farid/research/digitaltampering/

Above is a link where photos have been historically tampered, from old photos to tv guides to magazines. Find out what was fake. It's kind of fun to browse through.

More fun to be had checking out all photo corrections on the links below:

http://glennferon.com.nyud.net:8090/portfolio1/index.html

http://www.digitalpablo.com/samples2.html

http://www.portraitprofessional.com/gallery/?p=0

And now for the big finish! I present to you a mock magazine intended to show girls exactly what gets corrected and how it's impossible to look like magazine photos:

http://demo.fb.se/e/girlpower/retouch/retouch/index.html

It takes a bit to load, but the fun is well worth the wait. When it's ready, it will tell you to click on the image to begin. You can cycle through her entire body, finding out what they've corrected...and where!

I teach my students these things when we work with Photoshop. It's important to know these things, and how fake the world can be.

Before things like Photoshop came along there was airbrushing.Penthouse and Playboy used it all the time.Doctoring pictures is about as old as..taking pictures.Anyone who thinks the camera does not lie is sadly mistaken.

hmmm, well it makes me feel SLIGHTLY better about myself. Even though I KNOW they are re-touched, it still does a little to the self esteem to see those gorgeous pictures... :/ le sigh.

I think it is entirely shocking and horrible.

I have always been aware that stuff was "tampered" with but that doesn't make it any better.

It makes sense that pictures would be retouched, photoshopped, etc. Actors, Actresses, porn stars, and so on are brands and they are selling themselves, their image, their face to make money. Would people, as a whole, find them more appealing if they weren't virtually perfect? Would people buy into advertisements if they featured normal people or even the disfigured rather than the beautiful with permanent, perfect smiles? I don't think so.

The problem lies in thinking these images reflect reality. You can say the problem lies in these images bombarding women, youth, etc, but it's how you perceive the images. If you look around you, in the real world, you see real people of all shapes and sizes, with all kinds of flaws. If you think magazines reflect the reality you are ignoring around you, you're stupid.

I feel the need to come clean. My photo in my signature has been photoshopped and I apologize for the deceit. I just wanted to be a good boy.

Nerd. 😛

I admit that I know/knew that they were airbrushed, but always a part of me did try to emulate what it is that was portrayed.

It was all very depressing.

A lot of money was spent and wasted on "that perfect foundation". :\
