The Shut The F*** Up Thread About Nest

LOL There's always next year! 😀 Drop me a PM with your e-mail if you want to be added to the mailing list. If you come, we'll be glad to punish you for that crack!

This is now my FAVORITE nest-related post! LOL

But seriously, I always ignored all the hype of NEST in the past. Now that I've attended... DAMN -- I still can't stop talking about it! once you go you'll understand why we continue to flood the forum with all of our stories, memorable events, and thank yous. There's really nothing to compare it to... you just have to experience it.

: shrug :

Really, they're just posts about yet another clique, in an already all-too-cliquish environment. I just wait for the posting orgy to blow over, before the buildup starts all over again. And no, I'm not bitter. Just saturated. :sowrong:

Just come to NEST next year and you won't have to be jealous. 😀

A clique with well over 100 members where all you have to do to be a part is attend a party? Now that's my kind of clique, high school shoulda been like that :triangle:

Bella, who would gladly sit next to you in gym :fish:

Nah......

I just don't think a shared sexual fetish is a solid basis for casual friendships.... :wowzer: call me provincial.

And thanks, Bella, that's most gracious (and smart-alecky 🙂 ) ...but The Great Master said it best when he proclaimed, "I would not want to join any group that would have me as a member".

I suppose it is a sexual fetish to some, and that's fine. I was there at the hotel from Friday afternoon until Monday morning and at the party for the full eight hours. If married or otherwise attached couples had sex in their rooms that was about all the sex there was at last weekends event. There was nothing of that kind at the party or in the workshops. I say this as a wide-eyed newbie who kept himself alert for that sort of thing. It was a great adult party of no nudity. Just adult fun, laughter, and making friends. Anyone could leave at any time if anything disturbed their sensibilities. The whole event was very well organized and as far as I know rules were followed to the letter. And as you may have read there is no pressure on anyone to do anything they don't want to do.....ever. I also was a little skeptical about what goes on at NEST, but no longer. I for one hope to attend next year and I hope you can make it also. It is quite an experience.

Forgive me. But, I've never understood the claims made about NEST being cliquish. Where does that come from? Have you applied or attended and been slighted somehow? I don't recall seeing your name on any lists of folks expressing interest.

If we're a clique because we have a common interest and choose to gather to enjoy it, then I suppose this forum, this community and the world in general are all cliques...each one bigger than the other. I mean that sincerely and not with any sarcasm or anything like that.

All anyone has to do to be a part of this is to show up and have fun. We do our best to try to draw in new folks. The only thing that divides us from you is your lack of presence. So, come join us next year if you like and see for yourself how much fun it can be...not to mention how open people are. :xpulcy:

As for the posting orgy... lol Guilty as charged! We can't help it. We get really excited and want to share this with one another and others who couldn't make it. 😉

Perfectly stated Ann. All one has to do is say hello to anyone and the "clique stigma" vanishes and possible friendships appear.

Ok,it's Saurus' analagy time. When I was little,oh shoot,as well as an adult,my mother told me that spinach and asparagus were good and good for me.I just couldn't put a veggie that looked like seaweed in my mouth, and any food whose last sylable sounds like gas.....i really don't want to put in my body.OK,too much information.Well, eventually i tried those green vegetarian delectables, and what do ya know......I fricken hated em,lol. But I would have never known if I didn't try em.If you have not gone to this event, come on next year to see what all the excitement is about.I have made some of my best friends there and would not change it for anything, well almost, lol.I guess what i'm trying to say is that you'll never know if you never show.It truely is a fun time.

Well said Ann,and i can say as a first timer 100% true.If anyone goes to NEST and does not have a wonderfull time it's most likely because they don't try.The warmth i was recieved with by almost everyone was incredible, but not suprising to me.😀

There is nothing casual about many of the friendships made at NEST.Although i had gotten to know a number of people by pm,e-mail and phone calls first after seeing them in person i know that many of these people will be friends for life and i can't wait to see them again. There is so much more to NEST then tickling, its really just seeing old friends and making new ones of either gender.

This thread seems to be taking a turn for the bitter so I suppose this is as good a place as any to ask NEST related questions! If I come to NEST next year can I bring a pie? I will make it myself, and it will contain all nice things. Like badgers and a toad. Also is it always in the Eastern US or does the venue change year on year? Like, say next year, could it be in Salt Lake City where my relatives live so I don't have to pay for a hotel room? Assuming I get vetted and am allowed to go. And am able to go. And am not dead, in jail, or hung.

a NEST "sub forum"?

I have a question, and a few thoughts.....

I personally enjoy reading about the various NEST experiences and threads, and from all accounts it appears to be a wonderful event, and I credit that to both the organizers and attendees....

Due to the popularity of the event, I wonder if sometime in the future would NEST be able to sustain its own "sub forum" on the TMF? The event is growing every year, and perhaps a NEST subforum, even for a temporary period of timebefore and after the event, may provide a place for shared experiences, info updates, all for interested parties, and may quell some of the minor complaints about the numerous NEST threads in the "Tickling Discussion" section.....

Again, the NEST threads do not personally bother me....I like reading them.....Just a thought....your thoughts? 🙂

Heh. Couldn'ta said it better myself, bro.

To Clique or Not To Clique

Nor do I, but frankly the advantage of getting together and socializing with people that have at least one (or some aspect of a) shared interest is that it provides an ice breaker for those sometimes difficult first conversations. After all, we know we are all there because we share an interest in some form of the tickling topic! We all know the comfort of looking around the room at all the many different folks and realizing that we gathered together because we like the same type of things.

It is a beginning. An introduction.

I can not help but think that is a rather special reason in a world where no one has enough time. People are in such a rush that we have lost many forms of the old social graciousness that brought people together to enjoy each other. Now so many gatherings are of people getting together because they do NOT like something rather than because they do. Personally I find it far more enjoyable to get together to laugh than to protest.

A Clique? As Spenser mentioned in one of his posts, we have attended for 9 or so of the NEST events. I never bothered to come here to read any of the posts or participate in any of the discussions. Each year I would exchange contact information with newly met friends and update information with those I saw year to year. I never bothered to write. I remained a stranger - “Spenser’s wife” that showed up and was simply there for the weekend (not for the community).

Yet year after year, those same people welcomed me and new people introduced themselves and shared interesting conversation with me on an amazingly wide range of topics. A clique could never be so welcoming.

Just my experience,
M

Man, bring that and i'llbe sure to attend next year. I haven't had a good badger and toad pie in a loooong time. Tickling and badgers just mix well together; just be sure to simmer the toads real good otherwise you'll get that weird fish taste in the badger gravy.

A subforum has been considered and is still a possibility. In the meantime, we'll likely soon move the NEST threads to the gatherings section so they'll be more easily found in the future. This would also have the benefit of not having 60% or better of the threads on page one of Tickling Discussion be about NEST.

We really don't mean to shove it in the faces of those who don't come. We're just still excited and want to continue the fun with one another a bit longer...and maybe encourage those who haven't been yet.

As for that pie.... YUM! :jester:

Indeed,
As Ivory, milagros317, BellaRisa, Kered, Ann&Drew, Ticklesaurus, bugman, taptoematt, Dan, and my very own Mz M the Forest Fairy have all pointed out just now, it is far from a mere cluster of casual friends. There is a communal companionship which everyone there becomes aware of. It is elating and very very special. Anyone on this list is welcome to attend.

If there is a clique among the internet, it is those who lurk on lists, forums, and websites and never ever post any thoughts of their own. This list just past 50,000 members. And there are fewer than 500 persons who routinely or ever post anything at all! That is a shameful one percent. Shameful not for those who join in, but shameful for the ninety nine percent who sit on the sidelines and do whatever it is tha they do when they read.

This is not uncommon on the internet, nor is it a rarety only of this list. Amost all 'net groups, lists, and forums have only 1 to 5 percent of their memberships contributing anything.

As for attending NEST? With fewer than 500 posters, and over 100 NESTERS, that means that at least 20 percent of all really active people in TMF somehow managed to get to NEST this year.

Just this week I thought about the rough growth in size of NEST. Sure, there were years when it sort of stayed the same size, but in the last two years it has really jumped in size. I think we can count on a --minimum-- of 15 percent growth over the next 3 years, meaning were looking at over 165 by 2010!

I will say that our party location can easily handle that size, and the hotel lodgings in the immediate area can also easily accomodate us, and with good negotiated group rates. And with the joyous raves that we and others have posted, I think that we can anticipate even higher rates of growth in the NEST convention.

Even our local tickle parties (around the USA/Canada, and soon hopefully the UK) that have been spinning off of the NEST energy and excitement have been gaining in attendance.

Our hope is that someday, no tickle fans will be around who have to say that they have 'never' been to a tickle gathering.

And I'm goinna try signing this with my --new-- sig tag that MZM just created for me (Yayyyy)!

If I do come, it will be with a print out of this, demanding to have my punishment straight away please (it would be just my luck if you then appeared with a whip and not a feather duster) :jester:

Anyway it looks like I accidentally started something with this thread 😀 I would love to come of course, but whether I could ever afford to come from London England, plus get my holidays (from an employer who tells you when you're having them) to coincide is very unlikely.

The thing is reading all these Nest threads is almost like a form of self flagellation. You can't stop yourself from doing so, but feel teased and tormented (not always a bad thing) that you can't be a part of it.
