The Strange Case Of A Legendary Curse That Wasn't

Everyone has heard of the legendary Egyptian curse guarding the tombs of the mummies. Even popularized I'm many horror flicks. The discovery of Tuts tomb by Howard Carter certainly fueled that myth. Many of Carter's workers died in a few years after the discover and exhumation. Yet many scientists and others were skeptical. Carter himself didn't die til he was 64 many many years after the event. Being the guy in charge you think the curse would have gotten him first. The other deaths too were scattered not an organized supernatural force it seemed.

Now scientists think that know the cause of the deaths and blame 2 things.

1 ) Toxic Mold. Scientists believe on the mummy there were many toxic mold spores. They think these were the cause of the more immediate deaths.

But what of Carter and some others that died much later

2) Radon gas. Radon is a radioactive noble gas formed by fission from natural ores. The limestone used by the Egyptians was rich in elements that gave off Radon. Over the millennium this gas built up to high concentrations in the enclosed tombs.

So there ya go radon and mold. Interesting how we love to come up with supernatural things to explain stuff.

Yes, people are too quick to pick a magical or supernatural explanation for something that can be explained rationally. :iagree:

Nice one Kurch...and agreed Mondays will never be Fridays but I personally always thought Tuesday was kind of the Monday 2.0 without the slight charm of a brand new week starting (also more holidays fall on Mondays for most people and most take Mondays off more than Tuesdays to make long weekends).

Thanks. :ty: I never really hated Monday's that much. I was happy to have a job. Lol. Conversely I never got that excited on Friday either.

I like Mondays because I like my job but I do like Fridays too because I like the weekend so I consider myself to be a pretty lucky person.

Can't take anything for granted as a wise person once said...not sure who said it first seems like everyone says it now.

Yea sort of the same as the person who said "Live every day like it will be your last. One day you will be right" Always liked that one. Lol.
